Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 3
This magical cottage owes its name to the previous dweller.(Who now lives in our 5 acre tree filled garden.)
The living room and kitchen area fill an ample space and with the bedroom and bathroom included, you will have 71 squared meters, not including the balcony!
The living/kitchen room has an impressive fireplace, large yet homely and leads to the balcony, an elevated tree top haven. It comprises an original wooden floor, authentic antique furniture and a neat kitchen area. Owl cottage also has satellite TV. The bedroom is an inspiring space, a cavernous pod filled with light and beams and because we wanted to maintain its shape and feel the stair area was kept to a minimum. The magic here was inherited from the owl, whose roosting beam still remains. It's a playful sanctum that is loved by spritely adults and children alike. It contains a king size bed, bunks, and a sofa bed. The en suite bathroom is simple and pretty; shower, basin and lavatory.
There are three ancient cottages gently nestled in woodland, within a tranquil hamlet and they have many original features including roman roof tiles, huge beams and authentic stone work. Planche Cottages are three gorgeous dwellings suited for couples with the exception of Owl that lends itself to be played in by the experts.
The grounds are a web of pathways leading to secluded places such as the hammocks and magical places to unwind. We are completely private, perfect to take in the hush of nature and valley beyond.
We are blessed with many great attractions, many good restaurants just minutes away, city escapes with beautiful architecture like Bordeaux, Perigueux and Bergerac. White sandy beaches of the lake at La Jemaye for swimming.
There are lovely walks in the area, but perhaps our favorite is the 25 minute walk to our local restaurant where we can reward ourselves with a coffee or a delicious meal. We have WIFI in all our cottages.
You will have a lot of space to retreat from the busy markets and beach rivers and it is quiet. Each cottage has it's own outdoor area as well as the deck which is a cool 'under-the-trees' hang out. We have lots of homely comforts, a range of outdoor seats and umbrellas for the beach, and a library of different books to borrow. Here are some views of the garden, deck and pool designed to be shared by the three cottages and when a group books the whole house, they obviously get it all to themselves.

About this location
The Dordogne region
The region is popular for its gentle rural country side with no end of country lanes that will lead you back in time. The Dordogne and the Dronne rivers meander through our hills and valleys, plentiful for swimming, canoeing, fishing or for painting!
The local food is well sort after and we are the 'Foie gras' capital, there are many dishes that make your mouth water including the 'comfit de canard'.
The attractions are varied. There are the city attractions, music, architecture, lanes, markets, art and culture. Perigueux has a beautiful mime festival yearly in august... and more. Bergerac, Bordeaux, Perigueux, Angouleme, Brantonne are all wonderful places to visit.
Or just realize the local french way to relax, go swimming, lie on the numerous river beaches that all have restaurants and bars, the french are so good at this, great parks, parking, pic nic benches shaded areas, soak up the sun or explore nature, visit the village fetes like the' Marche de nuit' (all welcome), brocants (brico-brac markets), walk, cycle, stumble upon cafe's and churches..... The caves are also a favorite we are steeped in medieval history, (the caves about an hour away).
We are tucked into small valley in a small very french hamlet next to a cattle farm. There are woodland and country paths in all directions. Plus we are well connected to to Riberac, 10 minutes, Aubeterre 25 minutes, Brantonne 30 minutes, Bergerac 45 minutes, Perigueux, 50 minutes, Bordeaux 1 hour and ten minutes, Angouleme 1 hour. The coast 2 and half hours.

"No pets allowed but one of owner's kept coming in. Bad odours, but extremely good WiFi."
A dark, stuffy, airless two rooms. Ground floor quite big with old fireplace and wood burner which with good weather we never needed. A large component of the rooms odour may have been from heavy smok… More
Our much loved terrier does his daily rounds, encouraged by our visitors, he is very well mannered, "no pets aloud", means we do not want your pets not that we are pet free, sorry.
There were two smoke alarms in the mentioned room. Our guest 'found' one which had been disabled by a sneaky smoker perhaps.
We are sincerely grateful for the comment about the stairs and realise that our advert needs to specify the height and the width and that the cottage is suited to more spritely types as we really do not want to mislead people who may find them difficult. The shower room is not large but it is perfectly adequate. We love Jeff's stairs!! The irregular hand rail and all, rigid as it is, there is a very special story as to how it came to be, not everyone gets to hear. The picture shows it's shape very clearly.
We have never had a complaint about odour in Owl Cottage, never had a complaint full stop, however, if the smell had been reported to us we could have done something. On the two occasions that I visited the guests to check that all was okay, I did not recall any smell I guess when the chimney has been rained on a little there is a slight smokey smell which I quite like!
Both rooms, one with a kitchen with in it and the other with a shower room are six meters by six meters, the doors are original and have a gap of at least half an inch at the bottom, the room is well aired with two doors, one to a private balcony and two windows. Upstairs there are four sky lights all that open, plus three small windows that do not open but have shutters and a new window that does open.
Vine grows over the window in the kitchen living room making the airy space dappled with light and cool. The previous visitors asked us not to cut it back because they liked it, again I just wish the guests had told me as it would have taken just a moment to clip it. There are at least 11 light bulbs in use in the living/kitchen area alone.
The cottages as single units are ideal for couples but they are available to large groups and families as a whole house, where we take off the insulated doors. The photographs do show the childlike feel of the room and the actual toys which given the size of the room do not make a great impact.
