Nestling on the edge of a hamlet, the house sits within its own garden, looking out over stunning countryside.

Though giving the impression of being in the 'middle of nowhere', the house is not isolated. One can get to the nearest village in a few minutes and Riberac, with it's beautiful square, is only ten minutes by car. It is also near to Verteillac, with its art gallery and Bistros. A 40 minute drive takes you to Périgueux with its medieval alleyways and historic buildings. An absolute must see.

The famous Friday market in Riberac is not to be missed. People come from all over the region and as the summer progresses, so the market grows in size. All year round it has just about everything for sale. If you like markets, you could visit one locally almost every day of the week.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

French Calm is a charming, authentic farmhouse, located in the hamlet of La Petite Renaudie in the Dordogne region of South West France. Surrounded by medieval fortified hilltop villages and pretty rolling countryside stocked with vines and the speciality ducks the area is famous for, there is much to explore for your holiday.

As well as visiting the numerous historical and cultural attractions of the area there are lots of other activities; walking, river kayaking and boating for the more adventurous, relaxing on the beach at the nearby lake or enjoying the delicious local cuisine and wines in restaurants and bars for those who want the pace to be a little slower. The garden and terrace at French Calm is perfect for al fresco meals and enjoying the sun and idyllic peace and quiet of the surrounding fields and wildlife.

Riberac is the nearest market town only 10 minutes by car and Bergerac, a 40 minute drive, has the nearest airport and car hire facilities. If choosing to travel by ferry to Le Havre, Cherbourg, Calais or Caen the farmhouse is reached in about 6-8 hours. You might choose to stop on the way down to sample some of the great places that France has to offer. On a direct route down from the Ferry Ports there is Futurama at Poitier and the beautiful Richlieu is worth seeing (the chateau has gone but the grounds are still there along with the charming village).

1 Riberac. Less than ten minutes by car. It has restaurants, bars and a wonderful Friday morning market that is the biggest in the Dordogne. In August there is also an Antiques market. Some nights in the summer there is live music in the square by the cafes

2 La Jemaye. If you like sandy beaches and swimming as well as being surrounded by a lush forest then you must visit here. It is about a thirty minute drive from the house.

3 Verteillac. A nearby village that sometimes has night markets as well as a couple of art galleries. It also has bistros and cafes as well as the Brocante with the lion and pumpkins outside.

4 Aubeterre. Has a most fantastic underground church hewn out of the rock. If it is a hot day this is one of the coolest places in both senses of the word. It also has a very pretty square with plenty of alfresco dining opportunities. Supposedly, one of the prettiest villages in the area.

5 Brantome. France's Venice. An absolutely beautiful place bristling with atmosphere along with some prehistoric caves and some great shopping opportunities.

6 Saint Emillion. The “Mecca” for all wine buffs. This is a world heritage site and rightly so. Spend time wandering around and absorbing the history and atmosphere. You won't be disappointed.

7 Perigueux. Nearest city within about a forty minute drive. Well worth a visit if only to see the medieval quarter with it's narrow alleyways and hidden squares.

8 Bordeaux. Historic city that is fabulous. Plenty to do and see Have a look at the Bordeaux tourism web site to see the full range of events and places to see. This is another world heritage site and rightly so.

9 Lascaux. The famous prehistoric cave paintings which are only about an hour and a half's drive away.
