Home description
We are situated in rural France, in a small hamlet just inside the Dordogne and just 5 miles away from the town of Riberac. It is approx 500 miles from the channel ports, just 40 miles from Bergerac Airport and about 70 miles from Bordeaux Airport.
It is a large Cottage Farmhouse, with plenty of garden and sleeps 6 adults comfortably. We also have a cot available for infants.
We let the property during the summer months and it is looked after in our absence by an English couple who maintain the garden, splash-pool and indoor facilities for our guests.
What a glorious sunset!!

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The area is renowned for all leisurely holiday activities, fishing, walking, riding, cycling etc. with more active pursuits can be found in and around Brantome, Bergerac and Montpon such as tennis, golf, bike hire etc.
There are many enchanting Chateaux and pretty villages just to savour and soak up the atmosphere. A visit to Aubeterre is well worth the time and boasts an early "monolithic" church built into the hillside. It is a very quaint ancient town and is quite off the beaten track.
SAINT EMILION A medieval town which stands proudly on top of a hill overlooking the Dordogne Valley, renowned for its wine all around the world.
PROGLISSE A sports and leisure complex about 15kms away from us open all year featuring Jet Skis, Quad bikes and roller skates it also has a bar and other facilities.
VILLEFRANCHE DE LONCHAT A small bastide village about 6 km away. It has a market on a Tuesday and there are also local shops.
SAINT EMILION Famous for its wine production (as Bordeaux and Bergerac) is about an hour away and provides many attractions including tours spent discovering Saint-Emilion vineyards along with a lunch shared with the wine-makers.
BERGERAC For centuries the regions most important market town, port and commercial centre. The second largest city in the Dordogne, with lots of worthwhile sites to see.
BORDEAUX France's second-largest Atlantic port and one of the worlds best wine producing regions.
Market Days- TUESDAY - Villefranche de Lonchat WEDNESDAY - Bergerac, Montpon-Menesterol THURSDAY - Eymet FRIDAY - Riberac SATURDAY - Ste Foy La Grande SUNDAY - St Seurin Sur L'Isle
Riberac / Chassaignes area
RIBERAC is the closest town and is some 8 km distant. It is a very typically French town with many old buildings and a main "highstreet" where many of the shops are situated. It is a thriving community and has 2 good supermarkets, a large garden centre, many bars and restaurants, bookshops and a swimming pool and stadium. There is a very large market every Friday situated in and around the free car park which is very well attended with several stalls selling English goods and books!
Riberac is situated on the river Dronne and should you wish canoes can be hired by the bridge at the edge of town. They are relatively inexpensive and there are several mapped routes you can take depending on your stamina. A very peaceful way to spend a morning or afternoon just floating down the river. The restaurants we have visited all seem to be excellent and offer good value for money and are typically family owned and run. Those attached to an hotel seem to be very popular and it is wise to make reservations. The Cafe at Bourg Du Bost (2km) has new proprietors and having sampled their hospitality and cooking on our last trip we can now thoroughly recommend them. Our meal there was excellent!
AQUAPARK/JUNIORLAND BERGERAC On the Bergerac to Bordeaux road about 20 mins away its a great day out it has 4 swimming pools with water chutes plus pools for children and beach volleyball.
LAKE LA JEMAYE Close to the village of La Jemaye between Montpon-Menesterol and Riberac approx 10mins away It has a lovely beach, watersports, restaurants, shops and cafes.
GOLF. Manoir de Longeveau Nestling in a valley only a short drive from Aubeterre, the former cognac estate of Le Manoir de Longeveau offers golfers of all abilities a challenging 9 hole par 64.
OTHER COURSES- L'Hirondelle, Angouleme (40 mins away) - 18 holes Chateau des Vigiers, nr Bergerac (1 hour) - 27holes Chateau les Merles, nr Bergerac (1 hour) - 9 holes Perigueux (45 mins) - 18 holes
How to get there
Travel arrangements are left up to our visitors and are quite straightforward and we have highlighted some of the most popular ways to get there with useful links to help make your arrangements.
DRIVING France has a very good road system and it appears to us that they cater more for the 'long distance' traveller. The Autoroutes, although mainly toll roads, are very quick and usually less congested than the UK and with a higher speed limit, you can make good progress. There are also ample rest areas and fuel stops that also allow you to take your time if necesary. Our French Farmhouse is approx 500 miles from Calais and on average will take about 9 hours travelling using the Autoroutes. This is extended if you decide to use the 'N' or Route Nationalle -equivalent to our 'A' roads. Cheap hotels near every motorway exit in many towns include (cheapest first): Formule 1, Ibis, Premier Classe, Campanile. Prices per room range from £20 to £50 incB&B. Always clean, mostly en suite, friendly and Campanile food is great. Obviously we send you detailed directions from Riberac to our farmhouse with your booking confirmation. NB The map does not show all motorways and should be used as a reference only. The 'A28' is not shown as it has just been opened but streches from Rouen via Le mans to Tours and is our preffered route.
FLYING Cheap flights are well advertised now and are provide an easy alternative to driving. Car Hire is available from all the airports we have used and it is simple to book. The closest airports to the house are Bordeaux Bergerac and Angouleme. We are familiar with both Bordeaux and Bergerac having used them several times and can recommend them. We understand Angouleme airport is as good as the others and is about 70km distant although have not found out which airline flies there! Please use the links below to help with your travel plans. As above we send you detailed directions from Riberac to our farmhouse with your booking confirmation.
RAIL The TGV travels all the way to Angouleme and whilst we have never used the french railway system we understand it is excellent. Eurostar now takes under 3 hours to get to Paris and from there you can change to pick up your onward TGV service. We shall post more details as they become available. Car Hire facilities are opposite the station entrance in Angoulene.

Further details indoors: The farmhouse cottage is two storeys and comprises of a large kitchen diner with a large wood burning stove as its main feature set inside a brick fire surround. The kitchen facilities have been kept as original as possible with the old original enamelled sink still in place, the kitchen units however and cooker are fairly modern.
To the side is the family bedroom & the large adjoining lounge is comfortably furnished, with a quality leather suite, dark brown parquet floor and ample furniture. This leads into the bathroom comprises of separate toilet, bath with shower attachment & fixed shower screen, sink and bidet.
The stairs at the side of the lounge lead to a landing with two restored bedrooms off, 19ft x 9ft and 15ft x 14ft. These two bedrooms both have exposed wooden flooring. The first overlooks the courtyard and gardens and the other overlooks the road at the front of the property. We also have a large separate shower room and toilet adjacent upstairs.
Further details outdoors: Our stone built cottage farmhouse is in the quiet hamlet of Chassaignes situated between Riberac & Aubeterre in the Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne, France.
The farmhouse is not overlooked by others but is situated opposite a typically rural working farm, with geese, chickens and ducks it is a typical French countryside retreat.
There is a 15 foot circular splash pool in the garden that is maintained from June onwards. It is large enough for 6/7 to enjoy during the hot weather and is perfect to relax in. It has a pretty courtyard with a shaded verandah and lawned areas to the side and rear. There are unrestored outbuildings opposite the barn surrounded by trees and bushes and a large grassed paddock behind the property. There is also a barbeque area opposite the barn.

Guestbook
Dear Ian and Marlene
Thank you very much for our holiday at your beautiful farmhouse, we had a great time, and the pool was a real bonus for just spending days relaxing around on the loungers. We made full use of the BBQ as the weather was perfect and added to your wine cork collection! The farmhouse was very well equipped, you had thought of everything! very comfy beds and piping hot water at any time of the day. It is ideally situated for the local amenities and many of the beautiful French attractions. We will have many fond memories.
Regards
Julie, Stephen and Jack Parkin-Morse. -----------------------------------------------------
"just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday at the farmhouse. Not usually the sort of holiday we normally take but it was so relaxing, we definitely would like to come again next year."
Gill and Garry -------------------------------------------------
"We thought it was lovely and we had such a nice time-the two weeks were just not long enough"
Mike and Jean
