La Croix (farmhouse)

Home description

La Croix offers a comfortable base to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the Dordogne. The garden is filled with evening primrose,hollyhocks and buddleia which attract many butterflies, notably swallow tail. The spacious balcony allows ample room to eat al fresco with a commanding view as the sun sets over rolling countryside. Aubeterre one of 'Les beaux villages de France' is only 15 minutes drive away. It holds great historical interest and has its own river beach on the River Dronne. There are many good restaurants within easy reach and Riberac market on a Friday morning is essential!! The accommodation is in two very separate areas, suitable for families and friends, but also can be entirely independant. The farmhouse can accommodate four comfortably and the small gite is ideal for two, with an option of a third on a 'put you up' if required. La Croix is excellent for relaxing 'away from it all' amongst beautiful countryside. An artists paradise!

Sunshine abounds through the summer and it is a pleasure to drive through the gently rolling countryside with fields of sunflowers through late June and July.

Riberac / Bouteilles area

La Croix is within easy reach of Angouleme, Perigueux and about an hours drive to the north of Bergerac. Riberac with its Friday market is 15 minutes away. Aubeterre is a must. Quaint and of great historical interest with a small market in the square on a Sunday morning .It has a beach on the River Dronne.

The farmhouse has a large traditional kitchen with a table that would seat eight comfortably. There is a door through to a double bedroom on the ground floor with ensuite shower and wc. You also walk from the kitchen into a spacious and comfortable sitting room with french windows that lead onto a north facing balcony on which it is possible to lay a table for al fresco dinner as the sun sets away to the west. A staircase leads up to a big double bedroom which is the entire width of the farmhouse with west facing large circular window at the gable end. Bath and wc are screened within the room. The small gite is entirely separate with a kitchen off to a small sitting room with comfy sofa, table and chairs and TV. You walk through the kitchen to a large double bedroom and then out onto a spacious balcony. As you go through to the bedroom there is a power shower room to your left and a wc and wash basin to your right.

Further details outdoors:
La Croix nestles on the side of a ridge. It is a peaceful backwater within a tiny hamlet. It has commanding views across rolling countryside front and rear. There is ample lawned area to relax and enjoy the rich variety of plants and shrubs in the garden with a range of recliners and sunbeds. The landscape, flora and fauna are perfect for artistic inspiration.
