Enquire nowThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Dordogne
The Dordogne is the former province of Perigord. The four regions of Perigord are very different with "Perigord Noir" overlooking the Dordogne valley, being steeped in pre-history, including castles, rock dwellings and caves with their famous pre-historic paintings. "Perigord Blanc" has large valleys and meadows and among its many interests, is famous for its truffles. "Perigord Pourpre" which encompasses Bergerac is famous for its vast expanses of vineyards and wine production. "Perigord Vert" of which we are a part, is a true treasure trove of verdant valleys and rippling streams, landscapes which inspire painters, and infuse a cosy and friendly feeling of well being and unaltered tradition. All four regions take a pride in their cuisine, each village boasting its own specialist chef, with restaurants giving good value for money.
The Riberac / Bertric Buree area
Bertric Burée
The area around Bertric Burée is rich in history with many interesting chateaux and bastide towns within easy reach.
Locally there are many small river beaches where bathing is safe, and canoes or kayaks can be hired, or a trip to the coast one and a half hours away. Riberac town with its own wealth of history and beauty, has banks, supermarkets, small interesting shops, a sports stadium with tennis courts and 3 swimming pools, and many inviting restaurants. Its market, every Friday morning, is the largest in Perigord and often has musicians or drama groups performing in its centre. There are one or two night clubs and the bars often have musical soirees to suit most tastes.
Whatever you choose, relaxing, or fishing by the lake, swimming or cycling, eating out or exploring our countryside, we assure you of a happy and memorable holiday at L’Etang.

We were warmly welcomed by Mike and Maureen who provided generous hospitality, lots of helpful information about local events and answered any questions we had. L'Etang is an idyllic spot in a tranquil setting. The gite was comfortable and met all our needs well. At L'Etang, the children enjoyed rowing on the lake, local walks, the games room, the art studio (with Maureen's support), the swimming pool and BBQs. Close by we all enjoyed canoeing, swimming in local lakes and rivers, exploring castles and visiting rural French villages and towns. Further afield we saw some of the Dordogne's well known sites including underground caves and some Roman sites. We stayed for two weeks and could have stayed for longer as there was still plenty to do and see in terms of sites further afield but they would have required a longer drive into the heart of the Dordogne. For us, the peaceful environment, being together to explore the local area, and enjoying all L'Etang had to offer gave us a restful, fun and restoring holiday. Thank you Mike and Maureen for sharing beautiful L'Etang. |
