Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
We have three ancient cottages that are gently nestled in woodland, within a tranquil hamlet and have many original features including roman roof tiles, huge beams and authentic stone work. Planche Cottages are dwellings suited for couples or friends sharing.
The grounds are a web of pathways leading to secluded places such as the pergola, hammocks, magical places to unwind. We are completely private, perfect to take in the hush of nature and valley beyond.
We are blessed with many great attractions, many good restaurants just minutes away, city escapes with beautiful classical architecture like Bordeaux, Perigueux, Bergerac to mention just a few . We have white sandy beaches, fifteen minutes away at the lake at La Jemaye for swimming.
Walnut Cottage has a double bedroom, a kitchen and living area, that leads to a sun terrace. and beautiful shower room giving you 35 squared meters.
You will have views of the garden, deck and pool, the monumental trees, early morning squirrels and birds. Watch them foraging from your bedroom window in the morning. The ceilings are low generally and although many guests love the way it is, I would highly recommend that people over 6 foot book another cottage. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven, hob, toaster and large kitchen table. There is a comfortable sofa that you can lounge about on whilst pondering the habitat of the walnut tree, a TV solely for the use of playing DVD's, but why bother when you can open that great ancient old door and listen to the sounds of leaves, bird song and the odd moo from over the way. We keep Walnut Cottage very low in price as it does have a tendency to allow the footsteps of people above to be heard despite some insulation.
The bathroom has a great big sink and a lovely walk-in shower, plenty of towels a large mirror and all well lit.
There are lovely walks in the area, but perhaps our favorite is the 25 minute walk to our local restaurant where we can reward ourselves with a coffee or a delicious meal.
You will have a lot of space to retreat from the busy markets and beach rivers and it is quiet, like the deck which is a cool 'under-the-trees' hang out. We have lots of homely comforts, a range of outdoor seats and umbrellas for the beach, and a library of different books to borrow.
We welcome naturalists and bird or nature observers,
Our garden is really special. There are many different species of birds, animals and insects that inhabit it.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region
The region is popular for its gentle rural country side with no end of country lanes that will lead you back in time. The Dordogne and the Dronne rivers meander through our hills and valleys, plentiful for swimming, canoeing, fishing or for painting!
The local food is well sort after and we are the 'Foie gras' capital, there are many dishes that make your mouth water including the 'comfit de canard'.
The attractions are varied. There are the city attractions, music, architecture, lanes, markets, art and culture. Perigueux has a beautiful mime festival yearly in august... and more. Bergerac, Bordeaux, Perigueux, Angouleme, Brantonne are all wonderful places to visit.
Or just realize the local french way to relax, go swimming, lie on the numerous river beaches that all have restaurants and bars, the french are so good at this, great parks, parking, pic nic benches shaded areas, soak up the sun or explore nature, visit the village fetes like the' Marche de nuit' (all welcome), brocants (brico-brac markets), walk, cycle, stumble upon cafe's and churches..... The caves are also a favorite we are steeped in medieval history, (the caves about an hour away).
The area is very rich in vineyards and farm land all flowing from one valley to another. Most people love it for the rambling country roads that stumble upon Chateau's and lakes and hamlets that take you back in time. Great markets dot the area. Swim at Lake Jemaye, fifteen minutes drive away, it has a beautiful soft sandy beach with cafes and restaurants, lending themselves to take in the food and the view. This local beach is on a magnificent, long lake! There is also a nature reserve, a hide for bird watching, walks and fishing opportunities, it is an explorers paradise. There are two great play parks for the children and an unobtrusive obstacle course for those that jog around the lake. We use it all year round and love it. In the summer it is busy, but in no way spoiled. Evening, a twilight dinner at one of the lake's three restaurants is really magical.
Many holiday makers come to this area for the canoeing because of the beautiful scenery. Paddling down the river, encountering the weirs whilst discovering the area from the lapping water, makes the experience more enchanting.

A very quaint and rustic property. If you are looking for 5 star luxury then this probably wont suit , but it is like a little hobbit house, full of character. Clean and plenty of room for 2 with good facilities. The garden is a delight and the friendly chickens, frogs and dogs make things interesting. Superb value for money.
