TESTIMONIAL AUGUST 2013
Wow - what a fantastic house! What a vision you must have had in converting it as you have - it's a work of art! So rustic-looking but really ultra-modern. So well-equipped and a real home from home. We loved staying there and hope to come again - it was perfect for our needs.
High spots were eating our meals (all lovely local produce) on the the roof terrace with fantastic views of the mountains. We loved the river bathing in Ribaute and we loved the walk across the mountains to La Grasse. On the last day we went to the Michelin 3-star restaurant at Fontjoncouse and that was an amazing experience.
So thanks very much - we loved it, we have some lovely memories and we look forward to returning to Vivre la Vie.
Best wishes, thanks

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
France is divided into 22 regions, roughly equivalent to states or provinces. Languedoc-Roussillon is a region in the south of France.
It stretches from the Mediterranean in the east to Castelnaudary in the west, the Montagne Noire in the north and the Pyrénées in the south.
When I think of the Languedoc-Roussillon, I think of colours, smells, tastes, textures, light and sounds. Tourism is relaxed. The wine is wonderful. Other than the Mediterranean beaches and resorts it's a relatively undiscovered vacation destination but is now been referred to as the “new Provence”.
Wine production is one of the mainstays of the economy. The wine produced here has changed considerably in the past decade and has moved from a focus on volume to a focus on quality.
The Languedoc AOC Wines site has lots of information about wines including descriptions and how to taste wine.
Cathars and Languedoc are inexorably linked and in the heart of the Cathar region is the wine village of Ribuate, which is centrally located to explore the numerous Cathar Castles in the region like Chateau de Peyrepertuse and Cité de Carcassonne, as well as the various Abbey’s like Benedictine Abbey and Abbaye de Fontfroide.
In general the climate is Mediterranean, hot dry summers, rainy winters, moderate spring and autumn.
July and August are hot and dry, temperatures around 30° C. September can be quite humid. October is a perfect month. The humidity is gone, the vines are changing colour, days are warm and sunny.
November and December are cooler but still very pleasant. Lots of sunshine. January and February are the winter months. Lots of rain, occasional frost and once in a while, snow. March and April are unpredictable, glorious sunny days with temperatures in the high teens interspersed with cloudy, rainy cool days.
May and June are usually very pleasant, lots of sunshine, nice warm temperatures.
Ribaute is a tranquil wine village situated on the river Orbieu, where locals enjoy numerous activities like cycling amongst the vineyards, listening to the sounds of water rushing over the waterfall, swimming in the swimming hole, picnicking along the river banks and fishing.
The area around Ribaute is rich in natural beauty and boasts many beautiful walks like the Ridge Walk, Botanical Walk and Sentier Scupturel to name just a few.
Surrounded by the boundless vineyards, one can also take a wine tour of the region and discover some hidden gems. Harvest time is from mid to late September and there are usually harvest and music festivals around this time.
A visit to the France would not be the same without strolling through the food markets and Ribaute is in the heart of accessing all the various village markets and only 20 minutes away from the world famous Narbonne Food Market.
With the Mediterranean only 40 minutes away one can enjoy walking along the wild endless sand dune beaches or relax at one of the restaurants located at the beach, where you can sample the locally harvested oysters and sparkling wine from Linoux (the original French bubbly).

"Absolutely brilliant. Two thumbs up."
A postcard-perfect French countryside home. Beautifully renovated, original house. All the modcons but all of the character as well. Markets, river swims, vespas at the Abby, cheese, bread, wine. It is everything you might imagine. And we barely scratched the surface after 8 days. Will definitefly be going back.

"Ribaute Languedoc Luxury accomodation in a peaceful little village"
Our extended family of 10 spent 10 memorable days at Vivre la Vie,Ribaute.village. This is a beautiful, newly renovated villa on 3 levels with a stunning roof-top deck. It has a very well equipped kitchen with stunning views where we cooked, dined and wined with produce from the many wonderful markets in the surrounding villages. It was an ideal base to explore the beautiful country side, ancient villages, wineries, monastries, markets and galleries. In Ribaute swimming, walking, fishing trout or just relaxing and reading or taking a walk down to the river with a picnic is great! All this in a tastefully decorated house makes Vivre la Vie an ideal rendezvous for a large family or group. You do need a car as there is no transport.

We spent 10 Days at 4 Rue d` Abeille in Ribaute, Languedoc. The acommodation is of the highest standards; beautiful, crisp white cotton linen, all mod cons in house like dishwasher, washing machine dryer, kitchen fully equipped with latest gadgets and cooking equipment. the village itself is unique an unspoilt, the scenery breath taking especially at sunset when enjoying sundowners on the "terasse". It is a great cultural experience especially if you speak French. We had the priviledge of enjoying a village feast on the banks of the Orbieu River with a 3- course meal served by the locals -it was scrumptious! There are plenty historical, cultural and natural sites to visit within 1 hour`s drive from Ribaute. However, one needs a car to get around. Beautiful walks in the vineyards and hills surrounding Ribaute. Do visit the local "cave" at the Chateau Drolou. The owner is the only Frenchman in the vicinity who still makes his own wine. They also make a delicious "Jus de pommes"

"Superb location, beautiful view from roof terrace, well-equipped."
The house is perfect for a group of friends, very comfortable, tasteful furnishings, well-equipped kitchen for culinary experiments! The area is magnificent, we walked, went sight-seeing, there is a never-ending supply of churches, castles, musea, beautiful walks. You can swim in the river, buy your excellent ánd cheap wine at a nearby castle (walking distance). The only disadvantage is that it is right in the middle of the village, with no garden, although the roof terrace is lovely with its panoramic view and the river is very close-by. I would not recommend it to families with young children. It is eminently suitable for people who want to withdraw from their daily hassles, write books, paint pictures, sleep, eat and drink, go for walks (no other people, once saw a beautiful - unfortunately dead - Paradise lizard on the path).......

"Fantastic and homely villa set in a wonderful French village"
Ribaute-les-Tavernes is a Luxury Villa set amongst the vines in a lovely, quaint French village. With fantastic views from the roof deck, which is ideal for evening sunsets, sundowners and BBQ's. Or snuggle up in front of the fire on a cold winters' evening, while cooking a splendid meals in the extravagant kitchen. I would recommend this villa to anyone looking for an authentic country French experience.

"Idyllic spot, great location and fantastic accommodation!"
We recently stayed for 4 nights with a group of 8 friends and had a fantastic time. The location is great with plenty to do in the area. We managed to go wine tasting, cycling on the canals, swimming in the river, visiting the local food market in Lagrasse, a day in nearby Narbonne and the beach, a visit to La Cite in Carcassonne and we even went to Figueres in Spain to check out the Salvador Dali museum. A fun packed holiday! The accommodation is amazing! It has been fitted out with everything you could think of including wifi, washing machine, BBQ, games etc. Everything has been finished to a very high standard and it made for a very comfortable stay. The roof terrace is amazing with stunning views over the terracotta roofs in the village to the surrounding vineyards. I only wish we had been able to stay longer. Definitely planning a return visit with another group of friends.

"Perfect retreat from busy London"
I had the pleasure of spending 5 glorious days (well, one rainy one) with 5 dear friends and two of their kids over the Easter weekend. We flew into Toulouse with EasyJet and picked up our hire car. The freeways were great and we arrived at the house in no time. I was blown away by the house. The bedrooms are beautiful (actually the two rooms on the ground floor are effectively self-contained studio apartments, both with their own ensuite bathroom and kitchenette), then upstairs there were 3 more large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one ensuite). When I reached the 3rd level I was breathtaken. A gorgeous open plan kitchen-living-dining area takes up the whole floor. Then upstairs again to the phenomenal roof terrace with panoramic views of the astounding wine country and Pyrenees mountains. We spent so many lovely hours eating and drinking on these top two levels. Happy times. We also explored the area a lot. We drove over the border into Spain and visited the Dali museum in Figueres; we went cycling along the Canal du Midi near Paraza; we visited wineries and bought amazing wine; we went to lovely markets in Lagrasse and Narbonne and drank beers by the beach in the sunshine. All of these delights were accessible by car and we were able to come home to the sweet bliss of the house. It was so relaxing and a wonderful place to escape the stressful lives we all lead in London.

"One of the most beautiful spots in Southern France"
Just spent a long weekend at this idyllic location, with friends and family. The location is spot-on with breathtaking views and the lovely Languedoc river nearby within walking distance for the kids to play and swim. The well-equiped kitchen suited us foodies down to the ground, and with a neighboring market in Lagrasse, we were in heaven. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here, but 4 days just wasn't enough. Wish we could have stayed longer.

"Paradise in France"
The gorgeous Villa is in a very quaint and quiet town near Lagrasse. The villa is spacious, comfortable and luxurious. Everything has bee thought of, and one of my highlights was bbq'ing on the roof terrace. The views are spectacular - you overlook the town and region with all its vineyards. Very easy to get to from airports and there are many things to do in the area. Lagrasse is definitely worth a day trip or two, bicycle hire near by to explore the local vineyards, a swim in the river just 5 minutes from the villa, the list goes on......
