The Aegean Islands region
Rhodes is the largest island in the group known as the Dodecanese. It is the 3rd largest island in Greece and is positioned south east of the mainland close to the coastline of Turkey. Its positioning makes it popular with sun worshippers as the island is said to enjoy more days of sunshine than any in the Med.
Steeped in history and mythology, Rhodes has more to offer than your average holiday destination. Couple this with the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the old town or the beautifully renovated Kalithea spa and you shoud find something for everyone.
A testament to the sun god, Helios who claimed the island for himself, Rhodes rose out of the sea more than 2000 years ago. With that life span you can only begin to imagine the history of this mountainous isle. One thing is for sure, if you love the sun and you love Greece, Rhodes will not disappoint
Climate and Weather The temperature soars in July and August and is often hovering around 40 degrees. April and May are months of few tourists and great for nature lovers as the island is a carpet of wild flowers. Winter rain fall produces an emerald isle of spring greenery and lush vegetation. June sees that island starting to get busy with visitors from every corner of Europe. Luckily mile upon mile of sandy beaches mean that even in August you will still find a spot on the beach to soak up some sun and sea. The winter climate is very clement which makes Rhodes an ideal spot for some winter sun. However be prepared to the island as it is with no tourist trappings.
Rhodes / Kolymbia area
The villa is tucked of a side road from the main Rhodes-Lindos avenue. It can be found just before the junction to Kolymbia or seven springs.
Kolymbia is an established resort with many cafe/bars, restaurants and shops. There are also 2 large supermarkets at the turning into the resort.
Seven Springs is an area of natural beauty cultivated during the time of the Italian occupation of the island. The 7 springs eventually combine to join a small resevoir. One of the springs runs through a small tunnel which visitors can walk through, this leads out to the resevoir.
Many local beaches are within a short car journey. The following beaches are all within 20 Mininutes or less:
Kolymbia - water sports, shingle beach and sandy beach Faliraki - fabulous sandy beach, all manner of waters ports and excursion boats to neighbouring bays. Glass bottom boat particularly good. Anthony Quinn and Ladiko - Lovely fish taverna at Ladiko, fantastic snorkelling and scuba diving at Anthony Quinn Tsampika Beach - Amazing stretch of golden sand with gently shelving waters, water sports.
Water park - In Faliraki, largest in Europe, great day out for young and old.
Lindos - Beautiful, whitewashed village best visited in the afternoon and evening. Also has 3 great beaches. Only 15 minutes by car
Rhodes Town - Old town of Rhodes is a medieval city still inhabited by the local people of Rhodes. Great historical interest with the Castle, mosque, Turkish baths and the great walled moat. Fantastic night-life too. New town is fantastic for shopping and you can also catch many boat trips to neighbouring islands of Symi and Halki and even across to Turkey (Marmaris).

Further details indoors: The main house: The design of the house is Cycladic with varying levels throughout the house. The front door leads onto the beautiful open plan living areas, the lounge separated from the kitchen and dining area by a camara, or traditional arch. Off a small corridor there are 2 more bedrooms and a bathroom with a bath and shower over. Upstairs leads onto a mezzanine level with a wrought iron bed and an en suite shower room. Up a few steps a door takes you out to a balcony along the side and front of the house with stunning views over the trees in the garden and over to the mountains behind. Leading directly off the mezzanine bedroom is a huge balcony looking down to the pool and patio area.
The annexe: This is a small self contained apartment, separate from the main house. A raised platform up several steps cleverly designed as drawers lead you to a double sleeping area. There is a small kitchenette with a ceramic hob, sink and fridge. A sofa bed can accommodate a 3rd person. The bathroom contains a shower, wash basin and WC.
Further details outdoors: The villa offers many different areas around the gardens. Three BBQ areas, a formal dining area under softly lit arches, an informal area with stone benches and table and a beautifully decorated courtyard,
A walk through the garden will turn up many intriguing features. A carefully placed seat under the cool umbrella of a mulberry tree, a brightly painted Bulgarian cart or an antique wooden washing basin sprouting fresh mint. And if you are looking for a lemon for your gin and tonic, just reach out your hand and pluck one straight from the tree!
