The Aegean Islands region
The Dodecanese are a group of islands in the south east Aegean. They name Dodecanese means 12 islands from the Greek Dodeca (tweleve) and Nisia (islands). In the summer the prevailing wind is the meltemi blowing from a North-West direction at Force 4-6. In Spring and Autumn the wind is less strong and blows from the South-East. The Dodecanese Islands lie to the east of the Cyclades off the coast of Turkey.
The Dodecanese are a sailor's paradise of more than 163 islands and islets. You will find on each island uncounted beautiful beaches and bays that you should not miss. You can start your Dodecanese route from our base in Rhodes (Mandraki Marina), Samos (Pythagoreio Marina), or our starting point in Kos. All bases are located near international airports.
Rhodes / Lindos area
Historically, Rhodes was famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. Today Rhodes is a major international tourist destination.
Lindos (in Greek – Λίνδος) is a town and an archaeological site on the east coast of the island of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese in south-eastern Greece. It is about 55km south of the town of Rhodes and its fine beaches make it a popular tourist and holiday destination. Lindos is situated in a large bay and faces the fishing village and small resort of Haraki.
Above the modern town rises the acropolis of Lindos, a natural citadel which was fortified successively by the Greeks, by the Romans, the Byzantines, the Knights of St John and the Ottomans. This makes the site difficult to excavate and interpret archaeologically. The acropolis offers spectacular views of the surrounding harbours and coastline.
Many people are content to just relax and swim on the stunning local beaches,or visit the local historic sites and places of interest. For the more adventurous, however, there is a vast range of activities available on the island - From a first class gold club, to superb scuba diving spots and a luxurious health spa.
