The Aegean Islands region
Rhodes is well known for its sunny climate. Blessed by the sun god Helios, it boasts an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. The island is said to have risen from the sea and on its highest mountain peaks sea shells have been found. The island enjoys a healthy economy, mainly due to tourism. Despite this the friendliness of the people has not been compromised in any way and it is often the first impression on any visitor, even if they are regular travellers to Greece. The east coast of the island offers mile upon mile of glorious beaches easily accessible and most with facilities. The west coast is mountainous and rugged, a lush green forest of vegetation and always cooler than its eastern sister. From certain points on the west coast you command excellent views to the neighbouring islands of Halki and Symi, even the coastline of Turkey is visible. Mountain villages offer wineries, local crafts such as rug weaving and local produce such as honey and Souma are readily available. The capital of the island is a divided city, the old medievil city of Rhodes is enclosed within the original fortress and it always amazes people that the city is still very much occupied, although now by locals instead of Turks or Knights! At the southernmost extreme the point of Prassonissi is a natural wonder with a long sand bank dividing the seas of the wavy Aegean and the smooth Mediterranean before they merge together at the tip. Traditional villages scattered amoungst olive groves and tourist resorts, amazing beaches, a rich local history from the knights of the crusades to Turkish and Italian occupation, ruined castles and our own Acropolis at the pretty village of Lindos. Not to forget the shopping in the New town Rhodes has something for every holidaymakers wish!

Climate and Weather The temperature soars in July and August and is often hovering around 40 degrees. April and May are months of few tourists and great for nature lovers as the island is a carpet of wild flowers. Winter rain fall produces an emerald isle of spring greenery and lush vegetation. June sees that island starting to get busy with visitors from every corner of Europe. Luckily mile upon mile of sandy beaches mean that even in August you will still find a spot on the beach to soak up some sun and sea. The winter climate is very clement which makes Rhodes an ideal spot for some winter sun. However be prepapred to the island as it is with no tourist trappings.
Psinthos
Your quaint, quintessential Greek village, Psinthos is little known and off the tourist track. Those that don’t know it would probably just drive through it on their way to somewhere else. However if you are looking for a hearty lunch or dinner with good company Psinthos offers great Tavernas with Mezes, ice cold Retsina and their speciality of barbequed meat. The natural spring waters of Fasouli run down from the mountain ensuring lush green countryside all around. Finish your meal with a coffee in the square, close to the sanctity of the village church dedicated to Theotakis. The feast day is September 8th and as ever celebrations include plenty of food, wine and dancing. On a historical note Psinthos is famous as the site of the last battle between the Turks and the Italians.

The house was finished this year, 2008 and we will make many further improvements to the garden. The village is really friendly and very greek with some great Tavernas. The view is the real clincher, it is endless and you think you have taken everything in and then suddenly you notice something else - just beautiful.
