Nostos Homes Archangelos Rhodes - Vacation Home Rental · Folklore Museum - Arch type home · Active Life

The homes' doors open and the beauty floods your heart and overflows with the surprise of the “piateloticho” (the plate wall)! They are the hand painted plates, which accompanied the bride to her new home, with the big mirror in the middle and the family pictures. But why so many plates? With beauty there is no “why” – it just saves us!...

In the interior of the homes, the “kamara”, (the arch), which parts the home in two, dominates harmoniously without distracting from its unity. Famed Archangelic craftsmen built it with big hand cut stones and at its center, they wedged the “arch's key” (klidi tis kamaras). The whole house rests on the “arch key”, symmetrically and is uniquely balanced!...

The opening of these homes to the people aims to render the unique cultural heritage of Archagelos Rhodes. But they will do it in a different way – by living for a week in a “live – folklore museum” and by participating in related activities.

During their stay, visitors are invited to participate in this project specially designed to introduce them further to tradition and local customs.

It includes the following activities:

1. A tour to familiarize the guests with the “arch” type homes.

2. Lighting of the wood oven, baking archangelic bread, local foods and preparing the tenants daily meals for both hommes.

3. Familiarization with Rhodes' aromatic plants and herbs from the home's garden and creating cosmetics and ointments.

Certainly guests can enjoy the great beaches: Tsampika, St. Agatha and Stegna, all very close to the Archangelos (1 - 3km).

You can visit:

*The church of Archangel Micheal Taxiarxis which dates back tou 1845 and is celebrated on 8th November. The features that stand out are the “νευρωτά σταυροθόλια”, the cobble paved yard and the peculiar belfry, whice stands out from a far.

*The traditional historical centre of the village is found surrounding the church – the narrow whitewashed alleys, the small, traditional, archangelic homes with their ornate gates and their wood burning ovens in the yards. The aroma of freshly baked bread every Saturday and the hospitable Archangelic people, who keep the local voice alive and the customs of the village, all create a very warm atmosphere.

*The non-profit organisation “Faethon”, an Equestrian Club, which has gathered all the surviving small horses (they are living only at Rhodes) and has put forth a rescue effort for them.
