The Aegean Islands region
Rhodes is well known for its sunny climate. Blessed by the sun god Helios, it boasts an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. The island is said to have risen from the sea and on its highest mountain peaks sea shells have been found. The island enjoys a healthy economy, mainly due to tourism. Despite this the friendliness of the people has not been compromised in any way and it is often the first impression on any visitor, even if they are regular travellers to Greece. The east coast of the island offers mile upon mile of glorious beaches easily accessible and most with facilities. The west coast is mountainous and rugged, a lush green forest of vegetation and always cooler than its eastern sister. From certain points on the west coast you command excellent views to the neighbouring islands of Halki and Symi, even the coastline of Turkey is visible. Mountain villages offer wineries, local crafts such as rug weaving and local produce such as honey and Souma are readily available. The capital of the island is a divided city, the old medievil city of Rhodes is enclosed within the original fortress and it always amazes people that the city is still very much occupied, although now by locals instead of Turks or Knights! At the southernmost extreme the point of Prassonissi is a natural wonder with a long sand bank dividing the seas of the wavy Aegean and the smooth Mediterranean before they merge together at the tip. Traditional villages scattered amoungst olive groves and tourist resorts, amazing beaches, a rich local history from the knights of the crusades to Turkish and Italian occupation, ruined castles and our own Acropolis at the pretty village of Lindos. Not to forget the shopping in the New town Rhodes has something for every holidaymakers wish!
Rhodes / Malona area
Malona is situated on the east coast of Rhodes where many beautiful sandy beaches can be found. The nearest is the glorious beach of Agathi, a sheltered beach with gently shelving water great for children, however the aqua blue waters won't disappoint anyone. Agathi is approx. 10 km from Malona, about 5 mins by car or moped. There is an 18 hole golf course at Afandou approximately 15 minute drive from Malona. There are eateries to be found in Malona and the neighbouring village of Masari. Close by is popular resort of Haraki with cafeterias, bars and tavernas. The village of Malona itself has several small minimarkets, a chemist and a butchers. The local post office runs from one of the cafes in the square and fresh fruit and fish are sold from vans visiting daily. Horse riding also available nearby. Visit the miniature horse sanctuary of Archangelos, a native breed to Rhodes. Visit the historic old town of Rhodes, picturesque Lindos, sample wines in Embona or take one of the many boats to neighbouring islands. Turkey is just a 1 hour boat ride away too!
Malona is an excellent choice for couples or families.

Climate and Weather The temperature soars in July and August and is often hovering around 40 degrees. April and May are months of few tourists and great for nature lovers as the island is a carpet of wild flowers. Winter rain fall produces an emerald isle of spring greenery and lush vegetation. June sees that island starting to get busy with visitors from every corner of Europe. Luckily mile upon mile of sandy beaches mean that even in August you will still find a spot on the beach to soak up some sun and sea. The winter climate is very clement which makes Rhodes an ideal spot for some winter sun. However be prepapred to the island as it is with no tourist trappings.

"We love the fact that the property allows us an insight into a traditional village life. The food was also amazing at the local taverna and waters of Haraki and Agathi beach are unbelievable!'
Malona seems to be very up and coming, and rightly so! Fabulous locals and a great place to stay"
"Your lovely house had everything we needed, we wanted for nothing. We were particularly impressed with the service on arrival which went very smoothly, all credit to your property manager. We will miss ouzo on the patio, until next year!"
