BookThe Aegean Islands region
Imagine a climate with around 320 days of sunshine a year! Think of Rhodes... Referred to as the 'Island of the Sun' and also known as the 'Island of Roses', Rhodes continues to be regarded as having its own unique climate. Imagine enjoying a holiday in this lovely sunshine in a luxury villa at an affordable price. Rhodes Town. The home to the majority of the inhabitants of Rhodes, well over half the population of the island. Once the home of the Colossus, one of the 7 wonders of the World, Rhodes is a beautiful small city offering a wealth of interesting places to see. Rhodes New Town is outside the city walls and is a more cosmopolitan area offering excellent shopping opportunities. Those living on Rhodes conduct their shopping and go about their daily business in this area. Rhodes Old Town is very popular with tourists. It is contained within the old city walls and is full of narrow and cobbled streets with many restaurants, shops and museums. A little history about Lindos... The town was built by the Dorians at the same time as Kameiros and Lalyssos in the 12th century B.C. Rhodes sent nine ships to the Trojan War and most probably came from Lindos. It demonstrates that during that period Lindos was the most powerful town in Rhodes and the development of the town was due to its naval power. Its two harbours as well as it impregnable acropolis were unique on Rhodes. There is information that Lindos already had colonies by the 7th century and that it monopolized a large part of trade and shipping in the Mediterranean.
The Rhodes / Lindos Vliha Resort area
Lindos has been a popular destination for tourists for many years. It's a charming historic town set on a rock with the imposing Acropolis sitting above. The town bustles with activity and offers an extensive choice of excellent restaurants and shops. No traffic is allowed in the town which adds to the appeal of Lindos. Donkeys carry visitors up to the Acropolis, however, for the more energetic you can climb the path leading to the entrance. There are opportunities for fishing, going on boat trips and hiring boats all from Lindos or closeby.
