Lavendel house is the sweetest house, but what's more it's located in the sweetest street. there are Lavender flowers, and all sorts of other flowers at the courtyard but also in the rest of the street. The house is very spacious, as are the bedrooms. There are 2 high raised hand carved platforms in the living room where 2 double beds are placed. This is apart from the 2 bedrooms, which are above each other and have one double bed, with bathroom en suite, and single bed in the second bedroom.

The house has 2 bathrooms, but only one of them has a shower. The other one is en suite with the master bedroom, but has a toilet, and sink /mirror in it. The common bathroom is downstairs reachable through the courtyard.

The big living room has the hand laid small pebbles in the beautiful mosaic that is so typical for Koskinou and is nowadays priceless and hardly obtainable as the craftsmen to do this hard and heavy job are dying out. There is a separate kitchen that has all sorts of amenities, but which is not luxurious. Everything there is, is just simple but efficient.

The division of the rooms is as follows. One gets onto the property through the courtyard. From the courtyard on the one side one gets onto the single bedroom downstairs. From there one gets into the kitchen. In the kitchen there is a stairs leading to the double master bedroom. In this bedroom there is a small bathroom with a toilet and sink. On the other side of the courtyard one can enter the living room with the 2 high raised platforms that both hold a double bed. On another side of the courtyard there is a door leading to the bathroom with bath tub, toilet, washing machine, sink and shower.

outside

The courtyard has a dining area, flowers, a b.b.q. and sun beds. There is a big umbrella for the ones that prefer the shade. The courtyard can be reached both from the living room as well as from the single bedroom.

Koskinou village

Koskinou village exists of 2 parts: the old village/town, and around it the new area. As our interest with renting, and in general, only goes out to traditional, authentic places, we only speak about the old part in this website. In the old part (which is a village of its own), the houses date back to the 17th,18th and 19th century. Like in many places in Greece about 40 years ago people started abandoning their old stone family houses, to move into modern cement buildings out of the village centers or creating new centers. The houses then became ruins and were rediscovered and bought in their original state by foreigners, Greeks from Athens and some times local Greeks. They renovated these beautiful houses and recently all kinds of committees are being formed to keep or bring back the houses in the authentic state. Typical for the village is the sala (living room) with a big stone arch (Kamarra) through the middle to make a semi separation. Another thing that is typical are the chochlakia, floors in which pebbles (found on the beach) are laid, stone by stone into a typical, magnificent mosaic floor. These floors nowadays cost a fortune to produce. Again a typical thing of the houses in Koskinou is that they have wooden sofas in the sala, high raised platforms, on which one or 2 mattresses were laid, for sleeping or where they used to drink tea. The last typical thing for Kosknou are the courtyards surrounded by high walls for total privacy and closed off by iron handmade doors with a beautiful design in it.

The streets of Koskinou are covered by chochlakia (pebbles), tiles and marble. There are some small springs at the edges of the old village and there is a museum somewhere in the middle, where one can see how the people used to live and how the houses looked like in the older days: well worth a visit.

Getting around

there is a bus station just at a 3 minutes walk. the bus will take you to a lot of beaches, like kalithea thermen spa beach and others, to the city of Rhodes, and towards the south like lindos and further south.

Rhodes

Location

The neighborhood is soooo nice and sweet. Old little Greek ladies on the street, their grandchildren, lots and lots of flowers on the street, that all make for a happy sight. The house is not luxurious, but it is spacious. If you wish atmosphere, and a feeling of home and happiness, then this is the right house for you.

The area is the old village of Koskinou, with all old houses, Greek people, and no tourist hordes. And a few very nice restaurants around the corner, with homemade fair food, and a few super markets that have all you would want. There is a bus station right around the corner at the creperie..
