Imagine an old barn. Big spaces used to store food, wheat and all the necessities to help farmers go through the windy winters on Lake of Como. Imagine kids running and playing till bedtime whilst women are chatting, complaining and knitting. This is what an old barn can keep: old stories, chilly nights and the soul of a town.

A beautiful lake view can be enjoyed by the house’s private solarium, fully furnished with deckchairs and tables. And if you think a solarium is not enough for you, you’ll be happy to know that 13 stairs down will bring you into a smaller nonetheless nicely furnished terrace. On this level, you’ll find also a living room with open kitchen with four burners, oven and fridge and most of all, the same breathtaking view of the lake.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

Lake Como is 50 km long and one of the most beautiful in Europe. In the nineteenth century it has been a retreat for wealthy Milanese families who built beautiful villas. Some of them are open to the public and their gardens are really worth to be visited. Near Varenna is villa Monastero, Villa Melzi in Bellagio, Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, in Lenno Villa Balbaniello.

Lake Como for centuries attracted visitors, including important statesmen, artists and writers, and its openness to “VIP” has recently been confirmed by the presence almost all year around, of George Clooney, Donatella Versace, Elton John, Madonna just to say some names…, who have decided to make this area their own private paradise.

Every season is worth a visit, because the climate is mild. Springtime starts in April, May and June are warm. In July the temperature reaches 25-30 degrees, but there is always a lovely breeze, la Breva, a must for surfers and sailing boats. September and October are much loved too and winters are usually cold but bright with lot of sunshine .

In summer in particular you can practise golf, swimming, sailing and all watersports. In winter the skiing slopes at St Moritz, San Bernardino, Madesimo, Gotthard are at easy reach ( 90 minutes by car).
During all the year instead, thanks to the Mediterranean climate, high mountains around the lake invite hiking and walking.

And for the relax-supporters, excursions to Como ( 35 km), Milan (80 km), Lugano ( 35 km) are recommended. Shoppers will love the designer fashion factory outlets near Como and the Swiss border.

Rezzonico area

Rezzonico is a characteristic medieval suburb dominated by the XIV century Castle built by Pope Clements XIII family. It is one of the most charming villages on Lake Como, situated on the sunny western shore of Lake Como near Menaggio ( 7 km) and Como ( 35 km). Along the shores you find secluded beaches and picturesque spots.

You can go for long walks along the “Antica Regina” road which was built by Romans. Once it connected lake villages with the Alps, now it goes through woods and hamlets all up to the lake. And if you love mountains and trekking, you can reach the high peaks above San Siro where you can enjoy spectacular views.

The village is very quiet, has few restaurants, small supermarket, bank, pharmacy. There is also a small market every two weeks on Wednesdays. For extensive shopping and night life Menaggio is nearby.

If you want to visit the surroundings in less than 20 miles (30 km) you reach Lugano in Switzerland, and 60 miles (96 km) the famous ski resort St. Moritz. The nearest international airport is Malpensa (Milan) 56 miles (90 km).

By air: to Milan Malpensa or Linate airports (90 km) or to Bergamo (130 km) by low -cost airlines Ryanair, Easyjet etc.

By car from Switzerland: Gotthard, Lugano, Porlezza, Menaggio, San Siro, Rezzonico
By car from Switzerland :Spluegen Pass, Chiavenna, Gravedona, Rezzonico
By car through Italy: Milan, autostrada towards Como.

Another 13 stairs down from the kitchen level will get you into the bedroom section, the most quiet part of the house. Your comfort will be satisfied with a double bedroom, a single bedroom and a bathroom. In the single bedroom there is what we call “the little gift from Casa Vecchio Fienile” that the privacy lovers will love the most: a few stairs that open up into a secluded loft with one bedroom of a single bed.

We have central heating so the apartment is very suitable also for winter breaks.

Further details outdoors:
50 meters separates Casa Fienile from the lake, 50 meters that can be easily enjoyed in a narrow and old paved tiny street.
A car park is provided in front of the house.
