Home description
La Colombina ("the Dovecote") is an ideal romantic getaway for couples! Three floors rise up from the "Antica Regina" (Roman Road) and look out over lake Como, Rezzonico's castle and the Alps. This little gem is the perfect place to cosy-up, relax and get away from it all. Fully equipped with a mezzanine floor and recently renovated to the highest standard, with numerous authentic local implements. The 26 m2 (approx) was designed to provide the maximum amount of open area in this mini space.
Rezzonico village is less than five minutes walk from la Colombina, with the lake shore beach for swimming and a super little pizzeria. Menaggio town just 8 km away. Take the hydrofoil or the slower boats on the lake to Como old walled city and other scenic towns and villages along the way. The "Antica Regina" leads parallel to the lake, through pastures and forests and connects to the next villages and up into the mountains and onwards towards Switzerland. Cyclists and walkers can follow this route past waterfalls and ancient watch towers, ideal for an evening stroll with your dog!

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area
Lake Como is perhaps the most beautiful of all of the Italian lakes. At just 50 km north of Milan (Lombardy's capital) it is connected to all major European cities by air and train, with the A4 motorway running into Switzerland. Lugano and St. Moritz are both just a short drive away. It is also possible to take day trips to Venice and Verona. Central to Lombardy is it's internationally famous approach to fashion and design, which is largely based in and around Milan.
Rezzonico area
With its temperate climate, a typical July will offer between 25-30'C of warm sunshine. The area has been the retreat for wealthy Milanese families for generations and so the lake itself has numerous beautiful private villas. Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo is word famous for its Azalea Gardens which are open to the public, and others including Villa Melzi in Bellagio, allow visitors to view their gardens during the summer months. These two are well worth a visit. Classical and jazz concerts are abundant, as are numerous firework displays and other local events.
Activities near Rezzonico: windsurfing, kite-surfing, sailing, swimming, fishing, hiking and biking, golf, skiing, riding, rock-climbing, trekking and walking are all popular and readily available in the region. Eating out is not considered a pastime, more of a way of life. With so many local wines and dozens of flavours of icecream available, it's difficult to fit everything that's on offer into a single week.
During the winter the weather is usually fairly predictable, as the area is sheltered by the alps. If you plan your holiday in winter you will enjoy that "early-spring feeling" especially with a fresh cup of coffee and a newspaper looking out over the lake towards the snow covered mountains.
How to get there
Milano Linarte, and Milano Malpensa airports are roughly 1-2 hours' drive away. Milano Bergamo is further (2 1/2 - 3 hours' drive). There are trains and busses taking you to Como and Menaggio (8 km from Rezzonico village). Travelling by car, you simply head for Como town, then drive along the lake for 35 km. From Switzerland, drive to Lugano, then via Menaggio town.

There is a wood burning stove and supplementary electric heaters.
The second staircase leads up to the mezzanine floor (it is quite steep). From the bed you can see the lake as you wake up in the morning. At the front of the central area, the ceiling is double height.
Further details outdoors: La Colombina is roughly 40m above the lake shore, overlooking the peaceful village of Rezzonico and its 13th century castle. With 180'' views of the lake and the mountains on the other side, a few stone steps lead up to the entrance with a small patio for eating and BBQs outside.
Secluded beaches and a small harbour which can only be reached on foot make it the ideal spot for active people.
