The Crete region
Crete – the southernmost island in Europe. There are magnificent mountain ranges, water-sports, tranquil locations and clean swimmable seas. Bathed in clear sunlight much of the year, the climate is one of the best in Europe. The largest island in Greece, it is understandably a most popular travel and vacation destination.
Kournas village but a short drive from Rethymnon, a Venetian port with walled old town, and cosmopolitan marina overlooked by the once fortified castle. Helen's apartment has easy access to the National Highway with Chania around 40 mins drive and Heraklion just under one hour away. Via Rethymnon the Southern part of Crete can be driven too, passing through the spectacular canyon on route.
Rethymno / Kavros area
Kournas lake is an area of outstanding beauty, the stunning blue lake is a haven for wild life, and small boats can be hired to view the many varieties of birds and turtles that inhabit the lake. The fine golden beach starts at the popular Georgioupolis and stretches around 6 km towards Rethymnon, populated with good value beach bars and parasols with sun beds can be hired locally.
Rethymnon is the third largest city of the island and is a fascinating combination of old and new: In the old quarter, evidence of Rethymnon's Venetian and Ottoman past is all around one. The visitor may spend many happy hours meandering through the narrow maze of streets that seem a world apart from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life. On the other hand, the new town provides resident and visitor alike with all the amenities and facilities one could wish for in the 21st century.
How to get there
EasyJet, XL, Monarch, Thomas Cook all fly to Chania or Heraklion. Local car hire can be arranged via Arkadi car and bike rental, 0030 28310 29134, mention Idyllic Location to get free airport collection and discounted hire rates. Local taxi numbers can be provided via the property owner. Flights also from Athens several times per day and ferries.

There is a coverd area from the lounge with table and dirrectors chairs, a parrosol and 4 sun beds on the terrace, the area around the pool is shared so you can spread out under the lazzy Cretan sun. A parking area with a pagoda providing shade.
