Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Villa Agni is situated in Kastri, a small village in the altitude of 360m, in the foothills of Psiloritis mountain. The village was one of the military defense centres of Crete during the Byzantine era and the Venetian occupation. A romantic traveller could easily imagine the Ancient Greek goddess Artemis being worshiped in such a house. Built on the edge of Koukoumianos gorge, it was the owner’s George Hatzidakis, birthplace. The renovation of the house finished in 1995. It is a comfortable, 150 years old, house with elements borrowed from the noble houses of its time.

The Crete region
By far the largest of the Greek Islands. Crete is the most southerly Greek Island and as a sun, sea and sand destination it is hard to beat, with fine beautiful sandy beaches scattered throughout the island. If it 's history that you like, then Crete is full of world class archeological sites. Don't miss an excursion to the Samaria Gorge with its fantastic scenery.
This resort is dominated by its venetian fortress and sleepy fishing harbour. An endless stretch of sand and shingle beach, great shopping and numerous restaurants, bars and tavernas.
Was once built by the Venetians around an allegedly bottomless lake, it is now a cosmopolitan town with a small pebble beach. The resort has developed into one of Crete's most popular destinations. Most of the activity is focussed around the harbour where tourists and locals alike enjoy the atmosphere.
The resort of Elounda with its back drop of mountains is situated around its small harbour with an array of good fish restaurants, shops and a man made beach.
This resort, 6 miles west of Chania, has developed over the years into quite a lively resort. It boasts a good choice of shops, cafes and trendy bars and good quality restaurants. The beach is also lovely here with a good choice of watersports on offer.
This resort has lovely bays which surround the fabulous mountain scenery. Good choice of Restaurants, few cafes to sit and watch the world go by. A small selection of shops, supermarkets and souvenir shops.
Some of the smaller and more traditional resorts are also well worth a visit -
Margarita - Beautiful inland town, famous for its pottery.
Spili - Just a really nice traditional village.
Panormos - This cute, traditional village with its small harbour is well worth a visit.
Falasana - Has a stunning beach.
Elafonisos - This beautiful pink sandy beach is a really popular scenic spot.

Greece is 2 hours ahead of GMT. The clocks advance one hour for summertime starting the last Sunday in March and ending the last Sunday in October.
There are some interesting excursions you can go in Kastri, Melidoni and the outskirts. The distances and routes are shown on the map. We suggest some of these:
* Melidodi Cave, a historical and geophysical site
* Panormo. A cosmopolitan seaside village with neoclassical buildings and the air of nobility.
* Bali. A picturesque fishing village built by the sea.
* Moni Attalis in Bali. St John’s monastery with splendid view and architecture.
* Margarites. A beautiful village, famous for its ceramics.
* Ancient Eleftherna. One of the most important local archeological sites, still under excavation, with important findings. Ancient graves, mosaic floors, underground cisterns and other treasures have been found.
* Sfedoni Cave, in Zoniana. A beautiful, well preserved cave.
* Anogia. One of the most beautiful and important mountain villages, with tradition in weaving, healthy Cretan products and … fresh air.
* Nida. It is situated above Anogia. You can see the cave in which Zeus was born, according to Greek mythology.
* Moni Arkadiou. A historic monastery.
* Moni Vossakou. (monastery)
You can also attend many cultural events and evenings of traditional Cretan music.
For those who enjoy mountain hiking and trekking, the area is ideal. There is a wide range of valleys, springs and Orthodox chapels to discover. The Hatzidakis family will be delighted to help you at any of your questions!

"Lovely traditional house with fantastic views"
Villa Agni is a beautiful stone house which has been lovingly restored by the owners, in whose family the house has been for generations. The house is spacious and cool and there are fantastic views from the pool area. The house is off the beaten track in a tiny village, so having a car is essential. This is a villa for people who like peace and quiet in authentic surroundings.
The nearest town is about 15 minutes by car and has everything you need, and Panormos, where the nearest beach is located (20 or so minutes by car) has some good restaurants.
The owners of this villa are very attentive and respond immediately to any requests. I would recommend Villa Agni to anyone and hope to return one day.

"This is an amazing villa in a beautiful location"
Villa Agni is a very beautiful villa which is furnished to a very high standard with everything to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible and its in a most beautiful location with breath taking views. The villa and grounds are immaculately kept and the pool area is beautifully presented. There are plenty of terraces so finding a sunny or shady location is always possible regardless of the time of day.
At first the villa does feel a little isolated albeit in the heart of a small mountain village, however you soon find that there are amenities within less than a 10 minute drive and the beautiful costal fishing village of Panorma is little more that 30 minutes drive away which has plenty of little shops and restaurants with views over the lovely bay and sandy beach where swimming and sun bathing are a must.
Mr Hatzidakis was there at the villa to welcome us in person and was a most delightful man and he presented us with some own made wine and spirit and a complimentary hamper which contained most essentials to tied you over until you can get to the shops.
