Villa | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
Villa Helios is a single-storey villa with two double bedrooms (both with large, fitted wardrobes offering ample storage) and its own private swimming pool. French doors lead from both bedrooms onto the pool's sun-kissed terrace for dazzling views of Crete's rugged hills and surrounding mountains, and all the way down to the Libyan Sea and the islands of Paximadia. Air Conditioning (Hot or Cold) in both bedrooms and the main living area provides comfortable living all through the year.
Though built only recently, thoughtful design lends a traditional, Moorish feel, and modern-day comforts ensure you feel right at home. A large, fully tiled bathroom with twin vanity sinks and walk-in shower compliments the villa's feeling of space and cool, clean styling. The extremely peaceful setting on the hillside and magical, star-laden night skies lend Villa Helios a most romantic feel. Gated entry and generous grounds allow parking for 2 cars and provide a real sense of privacy and freedom.
The beach and pretty, harbourside town of Agia Galini is only a five minutes drive away and offers dozens of excellent tavernas, restaurants and kafenions... more than enough choice for anyone and all imbued with Crete's inimitable warmth and friendliness.
The larger towns of Tymbaki and Mires (10 and 20 minutes drive away) provide an excellent choice of shops and hold weekly markets filled with wonderful, fresh produce and a vast array of everyday necessities.

The Crete region
CRETE must surely be one of the most beautiful Mediterranean islands; steeped in history with its classical Minoan heritage (Crete being the heart of this oldest of European civilisations) and similarly bathed in legends telling of the Minotaur, Theseus, Icarus and many others.
From the Byzantine empire, through the Ottomans and via so many different faiths, Crete’s history is vivid, rich, spectacular, at times brutal - but nevertheless and perhaps because of - breathtaking and beautiful. Evidence of which can be found readily in its architecture, landscape, people and culture.
At approximately 160 miles from its east to west extremes, and widest at around 40 miles from north to south, Crete is a significant island with myriad opportunities for even the most ardent of explorers amongst you. The north coast touches on The Sea of Crete, and the south is washed by The Libyan Sea - lending it a North African climate with marginally warmer temperatures to those felt in the north.
AGIA GALINI lies on Crete’s southern coast, resting against the warm waters of the Libyan Sea, and overlooks the beautiful Bay of Mesara. Once predominantly a fishing village, Agia Galini now shares its pretty harbour and cobbled streets with a cosy mix of shops and tavernas adequately serving both locals and tourists alike. Here you will find, with ease, the ‘real taste’ of Crete without searching high and low.
At the height of the summer season, Agia Galini is a truly bustling and vibrant little town with shops, restaurants, bars, and a friendly and humming night life scene for all to enjoy. In the quieter winter months when the sizzling temperatures slip to cooler, mild conditions (with rare exceptions of a chill), Agia Galini becomes a haven of relative tranquillity and calm, and the already gentle, Cretan pace slows to that of a sunbathing sloth! Though quiet, there still remains open, an adequate selection of shops, bars and tavernas for those not keen on self-catering.
Nearby sites of historical and archaeological interest are the renowned Minoan Palace of Phaistos, a ruined royal villa at Agia Triada, the ancient, ruined city of Gortyn (once the capital of Crete and North Africa) as well as colourful, architectural remains at Kommos. All can be reached easily (within 15-30 minutes driving) from us plus there are many more wonderful sites farther afield in all directions.
The beach at Agia Galini is not the largest to be found in the area but is gently shelved, and being in the Bay of Mesara, is sheltered, calm and generally very safe, with a good choice of tavernas and restaurants just a stone’s throw away to keep you refreshed and well-fed! Larger, sandy beaches are only 20 – 30 minutes drive away at Kalamaki, Kommos and Matala (very popular) and many more within a similar distance and time.
Having lived in Crete now for a few years, Don has a very good knowledge of the local beaches, towns and restaurants… He will be more than happy to direct you to somewhere just right for you if you tell him what you are looking for.

"Romantic and Perfect"
Thank you, we had a magnificent time at Villa Helios. It is so peaceful and romantic (just what we wanted for our honeymoon) and it felt like we had the entire hill and mountain side to ourselves... we hardly saw a soul. Don - the owner of this villa - lives in another of the 5 or 6 stunning villas here (maybe we'll choose another one for our anniversary)! and is so helpful and friendly, he really made us feel at home, and couldn't have done more for us. If our married lives are as happy as the weeks we spent at villa Helios we will certainly have nothing to complain about :-)
If villa Helios was a bottle of vino on a wine list it would be a magnum of champagne!! Thank you so much for making our honeymoon one to really treasure. Love from Julia & Tom xx
P.S. We'd recommend this gorgeous villa and any of Don's other villas to all and sundry; couples and families alike. The peaceful atmosphere and closeness of Agia Galini with its beach, restaurants and friendly smiles are a real treat.
