The Crete region
You will never tire of tavernas, bars and restaurants close to Agia Triada. Stratos's taverna in Tsesmes is particularly recommended - many English people go there for the excellent great value food, the atmosphere, very reasonable drinks and the welcome you receive. The service is terrific and the owner and his wife are very accommodating. If it's not on the menu, just ask! For a traditional English breakfast, try Stavros's Kellari restaurant in Platanes. It is about 50 metres from Galaxy Car Hire on the right hand side and serves breakfast from about 10.00 am. Very good value, and handy for the supermarket - the best in Platanes is right across the street from the restaurant. Rethymno is overflowing with history and its amazing Venetian and Turkish architecture, Rethymno is built around the harbour with its bustling harbour life. This traditional town is packed with atmosphere, the second largest in Crete, where narrow, shop-lined alleyways and beautiful old houses mix with bars, restaurants and tavernas. There is a lively nightlife here with a range of discos and clubs, if you fancy a night out. The beachfront promenade boasts more shops, bars and tavernas. The beach, which extends east for 14 kms, starts in the middle of the town. If you decide to eat in Rethymno, you must try the fish dishes, the freshly caught fish is mouth-watering! The historic Monastery at Arkadi (approximately 10 kms south west of Agia Triada) is the most venerated symbol of freedom in Crete and lies in beautiful surroundings. Probably built in the 5th century by the Byzantine Emperor Arkadius, the Monastery acquired its glory and fame during the revolution of 1866-1869 when the Turks conquered the monastery. The people boarded themselves in the monastery and blew themselves up rather than be captured by the Turks. The waterpark: Is a great day out if you have kids is just this side of Chania (about 75km away) But you may just wish to spend the whole of the holiday relaxing with breathtaking views and stunning scenery, the choice really is yours.
Rethymno / Agia Triada Village area
The village of Agia Triada is only 400m from the villa and has a tarvena where you can get drinks and meals while mixing with the locals. The closest shop is only 2 kms away where you can get fresh bread and eggs, the supermarkets and Lidl is only 5 kms away. Rethymno is only 7 kms from the villa. The nearest beach is only 5kms from the villa by car where you will find 20kms of sandy beach with sunbeds and various restaurants and cafes
How to get there
Flights come to Crete from the end of March to October direct from most airports, try BA, Thomson, Mytravel, Monarch, or you can fly with Easyjet to Athens and the Olympic or Aegian on to Crete. From November to March you have to fly via Athens at present. If you wish to start you holiday with a few days in Athens you can then sail into rethymno harbour via ferry. There are lots of car hire companies but if you book with us we can get you 10% off with Eurocar. To get to the villa: Proceed from Heraklion on the national road towards Chania and Rethymno for approx 80 kilometres (50 miles) and take the right turn off for Arkadi and Platanias. Proceed to the bottom of the road (approx 100 meters, Galaxy Car Hire on right at bottom) and turn left and almost immediately left again. Pass under the bridge and through Tsesmes towards Adele and Pigi. Immediately after Adele take the turning on right for Agia Triada. After 2 Kilometres there is a house on the left and two orange bins on the right where immediately after there is a sharp right turn. Take this road up the hill and bear left at the intersection. Triada views is 200 metres on the left. This is my house where I will meet you and take you up to the villa.

Guestbook
Villa Francesca is a beautiful, well equipped villa and we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay. The villa is tastefully decorated and the views of the surrounding countryside are quite breathtaking. In the nearby town of Platanias, there is beautiful beach and lots of nice restaurants, there was even an Indian and a Chinese restaurant where the food was excellent. The drive across the mountains to Arkadi Monastery is a must and the roads were surprisingly good. The water park near Chania was great fun, about 40kms in the car, and is recommended for kids and adults. A car is definitely needed as the nearest shops are about 2kms away but there a tavern in the village which serves beer, wine and soft drinks and basic Greek food. Barry Chelmsford June 2006
We had a lovely holiday at Villa Francesca in Crete, the road up to the villa was a little steep (but fun to drive) and once up there it was well worth it for the stunning views. The villa had all we needed for a self catering holiday and we where pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the fold out single beds. The kids loved the pool and the gardens where lovely for relaxing in the sun and chilling out. The large supermarkets where not as far away as we feared and the beach was lovely and clean with sun beds to hire and a little place to get a drink, ice-creams and snacks. Mrs Harvey Norfolk August 2006
Our brief was to find a relaxing, "away from the madding crowds" resort and accommodation. Villa Francesca was perfect, the location of the villa allowed for some of the most stunning views of both the sea and mountains, it is a perfect retreat for those looking to get away from it all in beautiful and peaceful surroundings, a car is very useful although there are local taxis available. The villa is very well equipped and very nicely furnished, clean, bright and airy. The local village about 10 mins drive has plenty of tavernas and bars and the town of Rethymnon is only 9 kilometers away and well worth a visit, there are plenty of small shops to meander around offering Cretian goods like fine linens, leather goods olive oils and lots more, as well as the old Fort built on the edge of the town, which is definitely worth a visit.
Margaret and Tony are a very friendly and helpful couple and will make sure your comfort comes first, they are on hand if you need anything and take great care of the Villa and gardens, and they SING...the Karaoke at the White Lady Taverna was great fun on wednesday or Sunday nights, with very good food and Greek dancing too!
We loved our stay in Villa Francesca and would highly recomend it, we hope to return for another vacation there one day. Crete is one of the most beautiful of islands and still retains quite a lot of "unspoilt" places to visit, with very friendly people, good food and plenty of things to do and see.

Villa Francesca was a wonderful place to spend a holiday. We had been to the other side of Crete last year and fell in love with the island. Staying at Villa Francesca proved to be a better choice. Margaret and Tony couldn't have been more helpfull. The Villa had everything we needed and had a beautiful pool surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. The nearest resort of Platanes is just a short drive away. Here you will find the 'White lady'. We can thoroughly recommend it for excellent food and an entertaining evening. The service and hospitality was 1st Class. Antonia, Yiannis, Billy and all the staff really made us feel like part of their family, and if your lucky you can see Margaret and Tony sing!.
About a 15 minutes drive away is the town of Rethymnon, which is well worth a visit. It has a historic old harbour with numerous shops and restaurants and a very impressive ruined fortress.
Villa Francesca AgiaTriada, Crete from the 14/09/08 to the 28/09/08.

We had a lovely holiday at Villa Francesca, the road up to the villa is a lttle steap, but I agree with everyone else that once up there it is well worth it for the stunning views. You will need a car for certain. The villa was lovely, well equipped and comfortable. The pool and the gardens where lovely as well and the poolside was a sun sun trap. There were plenty of good supermarkets & restaurants close by and beautiful Old Town Rethymno is not far away and there are some lovely quiet beaches heading out of Rethymno towards Chania off the main highway, which is a great road for getting around. The location of the villa has stunning views of both a side sea view and mountains to all other sides, it is a perfect retreat for those looking to get away from it all in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.
Many thanks to you both for you kind assistance. Zoe & John.
Villa Francesca, what can we say but perfect!
We visited Crete and villa Francesca in September 2008 and have recommended it to all our friends and family. The villa itself is very clean and has everything you need for your stay .It is a very good size with different levels so you can have breakfast on the terrace in the morning then down to the secluded pool and gardens in the afternoon sun and then up onto the roof terrace for drinks to watch the sun setting whilst looking out over the stunning views of the valley and the sea. We never tired of looking over the views
The location for the villa is perfect, far enough away from the local town to be very peaceful but close enough to visit all the local taverns in the evening where there is a great choice of food and drink and where you are made to feel very welcome. If you feel like staying in at night then the kitchen is fully equipment to rustle up a meal with a bottle of wine or two and settle down to watch some DVD’s.
Car hire is a must to get to see the beautiful island and to reach the local town but also to get to villa Francesca as it is on a very steep incline, if there was no incline there would not be those wonderful views! Also recommended is the air conditioning in the villa as the nights were very warm.
Visit Kourna Lake while you are there you will not be disappointed.
Margaret and Tony made sure our stay was pleasurable and were always close at hand if we needed anything. Heather, Manchester
