The ground floor of the villa is L-shaped. We enter the villa from the fully equipped open plan kitchen with the adjacent dining area and living area with its open fireplace. From here, we enter the first bedroom with two single beds and en-suite bathroom. The bedroom has a door that leads to the back of the courtyard. Opposite the beds, along line with the wardrobe, is a door that leads to the other bedroom which again has its own bathroom and a door that leads to the courtyard. In other words, each room of the ground floor has its own direct access to and from the courtyard to provide privacy and undisturbed sleep for all parties. Both bathrooms consist of shower, sink and toilet. From the courtyard, next to the door that leads to the kitchen of the ground floor, is an external stone-built staircase that leads to a decent sized terrace of the upper floor. A wooden pergola offers partial shade and a small arrangement of garden furniture allows guests to retreat from the rest of the group, if preferred. From this terrace, one enters the open plan living area that consists of a small but very tastefully decorated and fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, a dining table for 4 guests and the living area, which consists of two spacious sofas. From here, up a flight of wooden stairs, we get to the loft type bedroom with double bed.

You turn away from the busy touristy places and leave behind the stress of daily life in exchange for a quiet retreat that you will share with locals who still live their traditional lives.
The little village in which the villa is located, consists of charming old houses and its inhabitants, mostly farmers, are usually out all day looking after their cattle and farms. In the afternoon, the little Kafenion (traditional Café) becomes the pivot point of the village where local news are exchanged and highlights of the day are recalled over the odd glass of “Raki”
Stress of daily life, traffic and tension are instantly replaced by serenity, fresh air perfumed with the scent of wild growing herbs and flowers and a pace that will send you back in time to a forgotten life revolving around relaxation.

The Crete region
The village of Episkopi is located to the east of the large old city of Rethymno. Halfway up the large road between Heraklion and Rethymnon, on the west coast of Crete, the road turns into the villages at Panormo. A winding road with a fantastic view of the surrounding area brings you to Episkopi.
The village, with its ancient history and traditional ways of life, is an ideal place to learn about customs, traditions and experience an authentic rural life.
Throughout the area the visitor is invited to walk in a region of particular natural beauty, to admire important monuments and to experience the customary local hospitality. We are pleased to offer our delightful region for excursions or holidays, combining naturalist and archaeological routes that, in their total, constitute an important 'map' of experiences. The forest of Milopotamo, running alongside the old National Road, is beautiful. Mountaineering in the Kouloukona and Psiloritis regions provides a wealth of unforgettable experiences, and quite a few surprises. Traveling at leisure around the watermills of Damavolou, at Kato Vrisi, Garazo, Moussai villages and Meteoro of Axos village offers a constant pleasure for nature lovers.
The hinterland of the area of Mylopotamos invites you to visit the monuments of Christian culture such as The Monastery of Vossako which dates back to 1195 and is operating at the foot of the Talea Mountain Range up until today.
Crete's highest peak, Mount Psiloritis, where the gods strolled in ancient times, is a sacred place with wild nature and unique breathtaking beauty. It always was and continues to be a symbol of the island since the Minoan period.
The Municipality of Kouloukona organizes every year many interesting cultural events open to residents and to visitors alike. The "Talea Festival" with theatre performances, art exhibitions, concerts and various other ravishing activities is a yearly summer festival well worth visiting.
Episkopi is situated just 12 km away of beautiful, clean and organized sandy beaches of Panormo.
The beautiful city of Rethymno is combining an old- time aristocratic appearance with a modern aspect, a blend which is creating a unique atmosphere.
Various elements are participating to the charm of this attractive town such as the many arched doorways and stone staircases, 16th century buildings, Byzantine, Hellenic and Roman remains, narrow stone-paved streets, the small Venetian harbour and the superb huge municipal gardens, ideal for peacefulness and tranquillity.
Every wonderful vestige from the past has survived in some neighbourhoods untouched by the passing of time and the growing of tourism.
The modern part of Rethymno (built following the extension of the town) has been nicely blended with the Old Town, forming a magical picture.
Rethymno has a highly developed cultural activity and actively participate in the cultural life of the entire island. The Faculty of Letters of the University of Crete is where much of the cultural activity is centred. Regular artistic events are organised by the faculty and the municipality such as art exhibitions, concerts and theatrical plays.
The town offers all the touristy facilities needed and numerous accommodations of all categories as well as lively bars and clubs and various restaurants and excellent taverns.
Rethymno has regular bus services to the main towns and villages of the entire prefecture as well as to the towns of Chania and Heraklion.
Ferries are leaving daily for the harbour of Piraeus and regular boats are leaving to various destinations from the nearby port of Souda.

"Beautiful house in quiet, welcoming location"
This holiday gave the best of both worlds. Situated in a small quiet village you get to sample the friendliness of the locals away from the hustle & bustle of the seaside resorts. However get in your car and you can get to the local beach resorts (25mins) & towns easily. Rethymno is 45 mins away, Heraklion 70 mins but once on the National Road they are easy to find. However taking the back roads you get breathtaking views and often get there just as quick!
The house is beautiful, well equipped, clean and spacious. The beds were a little hard for our liking but each to their own! The outside space is fantastic and the pool offered hours of fun. The kids in our party ranged from 6-14 and they loved the house & village. Next door to the house is a small Taverna (noise never an issue as used by the local villagers). The welcome at the Taverna was fantastic and the food even better.
From start to finish the manager of the house was brilliant. We were met on our arrival, we had the assurance that any problems would be sorted. A problem with the pool (their concern not ours) was sorted overnight so never interfering with the kids fun! As usually happens on our hols, a trip to the local medical centre was needed and the manager gave us the information we needed and even turned up at the hospital which sped up the process greatly. We cannot praise her enough.
This holiday/venue would not be the place for those who like to be in the thick of things but if you want a taste of Greek village life, a glorious welcome, peace and quiet but close enough to amenities then this would not disappoint.

A wonderful villa in a secluded traditional Cretian village. We were looking for a relaxing holiday where we could enjoy the weather, catch up on some reading and slow down the usual hectic pace of life.
The villa was wonderful, it has a great pool, plenty of outdoor space, a bbq and wood fired outdoor oven for cooking.
There is an upstairs terrace which is perfect for catching the final sunshine of the day whilst enjoy a beer or cocktail.
The villa is split into 2 parts, the main part downstairs with a kitchen and small lounge area, a twin bedroom with ensuite and double bedroom with ensuite, each bedroom has
direct access to the grounds which would be great for groups.
The upstairs has a bathroom, kitchen and lounge and a mezzanine bedroom, with the terrace outside.
Valia from houseincrete.gr arranged to meet us and guide us in to the villa (it is a little off the beaten path!) and she was happy to help us with anything we needed from recommending places to eat and shop as well as booking us a table at the local taverna.
We can highly recommend staying in the villa and hope to return at some point in the future for another relaxing break.

"Fantastic villa and heavenly village right in the middle of nowhere"
Absolutely beautiful villa and wonderful private garden and grounds. Slightly smaller than I had imagined. Beautiful local village with no English in sight. Great local restaurant and good shops and supermarkets close by.

House and gardens are great, tiny little village is beautiful, hosts impeccable. Its quite remote, nearest shop is 10 mins drive away. So peaceful and relaxing. Pool and pizza oven in private walled garden + wifi! Can't recommend it enough.
