The Crete region
Crete is the largest islands in the Aegean and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean; it lies between the three continents of Africa, Asia and Europe.
Crete built the first European civilization over 4000 years ago with the Minoans. It’s steeped in legends and traditions, not forgetting its golden beaches and clear blue seas.
Its historical attractions, to mention a few, include the sites of Knossos and Agia Triada and not forgetting the Hall of Frescoes found in the Archaeological museum of Irakleio.
Crete also boasts one of the longest gorges in Europe, the gorge of Samaria. The gorge is within the National Park of Samaria and is 16 km long and will take the average walker approximately six hours to complete.
Crete and its 300 days of sunshine per year, enjoy one of the healthiest climates in Europe. The island straddles two climatic zones, the Mediterranean and the North African. Spring and autumn temperatures reach the high 20s (Celsius) and in the heart of summer temperatures can reach into the high 30s (Celsius). The rainy season is predominately in the winter months and it is not uncommon for Crete to have no rain between the months of May and September.
Rethymno is Crete’s third largest town, conveniently placed in the middle of the north coast between Irakleio and Chania, making it an ideal base to explore the island, just a forty minute drive to the south coast.
Rethymno boasts having the largest Venetian fortress on the island and the old town has a colourful mix of architecture which has basically remained intact since the Renaissance, with its beautifully decorated piazzas and superb fountains.
An evening stroll through the old town’s narrow lanes will be an unforgettable experience.
Prines lies 6.5 km W-SW from Rethymno town, making it a perfect location to see the most of this amazing island. It boasts eight churches (you will need a local guide to find all eight) the church of St. Nikolaos dates from the 13th century.
Prines has two village shops; a butcher and a traditional taverna; Atsipopoulo a mere 1.5 km away, also has two supermarkets, fish monger, bakery, pharmacy, DVD rental and two tavernas.

"Beautiful Villa in a Quiet Small Village Setting"

Mange ferie hilsner

"Beautiful villa with everything you need, lovely location"
Villa Anne is perfect for a family holiday. It is week situated with easy access to supermarkets, beaches and restaurants. The villa itself is in a lovely peaceful location just outside the village of Prines. There are a couple of tavernas within walking distance, and supermarkets and beaches are within 10 min drive. This is the perfect villa for families, it has plenty of space, all the amenities you need and you always feel safe and relaxed. The villa is decorated beautifully and it very clean. I cannot recommend it enough, we definitely hope to return soon.

"Perfect in every way!"
We've just returned from our stay at Villa Anne with our two boys aged 10 and 7 and can't enthuse enough about the experience! The villa is beautifully furnished and well laid out set in a lovely garden, pool and patio area. The village itself is quite small but only a short walk away to two tavernas, both selling good homemade food and offering excellent friendly service ( especially at Giannikos Taverna). We ate out each evening and only ventured into the nearby town of Rethymnon to eat on one night where we were spoilt for choice as to where to eat as there were so many tavernas and restaurants on hand. During our stay at Villa Anne we did not have a reason to contact the owners Mike and Donna ( who live next door) for anything as all our needs were catered for on arrival and there was even a welcome basket provided full of local produce which was a lovely touch. We know that if we had needed to contact them though they would have been more than happy to help. Donna came to introduce herself on our first day and was most charming. As we were only there for one week we were looking for more of a relaxing holiday but Donna had a wealth of information to share with us about the island if we needed it. This was our first visit to Crete but we have visited many Greek islands and know we will come back to Crete and would be more than happy to have Villa Anne as our 'home base' again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

"Return visit - even better than the first !"
When we left Villa Anne last year we were certain we would return - we had enjoyed our holiday so much. Having just returned from that second visit we are even more satisfied, if that is possible. The villa was spotlessly clean, very spacious, had everything we needed, and the welcome pack of Cretan specialities which we made good use of when eating at the villa, was great ! It felt like returning to old friends when we met Mike and Donna again. This time our party of 6 had increased by one - our granddaughter of 41/2 months. Mike and Donna provided all the equipment we needed for the baby at no extra charge. It was wonderful to return to a property we knew and an area we were familiar with, to enjoy a relaxing break as a family and we hope to return again.

The pictures are great, but the experience is one we will cherish. The villa is absolutely beautiful. Mike and Donna welcomed us to the villa and were accessible during our entire stay. They recommended great places to eat and things to visit. The location itself is perfect to explore Crete. It has everything you would ever want for a perfect vacation.

We were really blown away by Villa Anne. We were met by Mike and Donna on our arrival who couldn't be more helpful. Donna had provided a lovely welcome basket with Cretan specialties - enough for a much needed first meal, plus wine and beer!
The Villa itself was immaculate, the pictures don't do it justice. Mike tirelessly kept the pool clean for us, and the gardens were beautiful.
Prines is a nice little village with a couple of Taverns for easy local food, plus a small shop. 2km down the road is the larger Atsipopolous with good supermarkets, Lidl at 4 km with Rethymnon about 6km away. Very well situated for covering a lot of the island, easy access to the south coast that has some lovely beaches.
We have stayed in many villas over the years and this one is joint top of the list.
