After our first very successful season, we have had such wonderful guests stay and their comments have been amazing!! It has been a delight to welcome a wide range of groups including families, couples, wedding guests, lone travellers, consultants/lecturers and visitors from the USA.
Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire is definitely putting itself on the map, a visit to 'God's Own Country' as named by locals, really is a must. With the rolling hills of the Peak District, the flatness of Lincolnshire and the lively cities of Sheffield, Nottingham, York and Leeds being nearby, The Dove Cottage is well situated.
Your stay at The Dove Cottage will be 'wonderful' and such 'great value for money' according to previous guests. The cottage is quirky and quintessentially English, with comfort and character rolled into one. Two super sized bedrooms provide one double and an ensuite. A cot bed and high chair is provided for our smaller visitors. The bedrooms have super views out across Hermaston Hall and the views beyond are spectacular. The rooms are warm, sunny with plenty of storage for long stays.
The bathroom is a great size, with a shower over the bath - Egyptian Towels and linen all provided.
The kitchen/diner is perfect for preparing meals and socialising in. It looks out into the private courtyard and is bright and airy. Appliances include gas/electric cooker, microwave, fridge plus fridge freezer, iPod docking station, kettle, toaster and a goofd selection of cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.
The kitchen leads through a small passage way into a truly delightful lounge. With its own fireplace this has been a real hit with our guests during the winter months! A Flat screen, freeview TV is mounted on the wall with a DVD player and a selection of DVDs to watch at your leisure. The patio doors from the lounge open straight out into the garden which is yours to relax in or enjoy a BBQ. Outdoor furniture and BBQ provided.

"Nice stay, but some things not as imagined"
When we arrived at Dove Cottage, we had a very nice welcome: wine, jam and marmalade, crisps. However, the brief contact we later had with the owners was very friendly, but also a bit unpersonal. The … More
There is nothing worse than having expectations of a holiday which doesn't quite live up to what was imagined........
Unfortunately, on this occasion Luke and I were unable to personally make our usual welcome. We love to meet all our guests and make sure everything is as expected and answer any questions.
During the summer months we don't tend to leave logs for the fire and the freezer is located in the 'old meat room' - I shall make this clearer in the 'welcome' literature we leave for guests.
We strive to provide all we can for our guests and that's why our contact numbers are made available so that anything can be asked for at any time......extra towels, dining chairs, logs or recommendations for great places to eat!
Blyth Road is normally a quiet road but due to a major link road being closed for maintenance nearby, our usually quiet road was used as a detour for all local traffic! :(( all back to normal now :))
I'm pleased to read that a nice stay was enjoyed and that the cottage was comfortable. In fact we have been so busy in our first year that we have just finished converting previous servants rooms above the old kitchen. We can now offer super accommodation for two (plus a little one) with great views across to the Dovecote and the fields beyond. Take a look, we've named it 'The Servants Quarters!'
