The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
The villa is situated in a rural area near to the village of Regusse which is in the Var region, near Lac de St. Croix and the Grand Canyon du Verdon. It is a wine producing area and there are several vineyards offering wine tasting nearby to visit.
As the gate to the Cote d'Azur and the Alpes de Haute Provence, the departement of the Var has many visitors. It's beautiful landscape with both mountains and sea and it's sunny Mediterranean climate provide tourists with an exceptional place to visit.
Inland is the interior of the Var formed by hills and valleys, plantations and pine forests. Because of its very sunny climate, the agricultural production is varied and plentiful. There are 37,000 ( approximately 90,000 acres ) of vineyards operated by 450 different vintners.
This land produces the most flowers of France. It's fruit, vegetables, honey (27,000 hives), lavender, thyme, and olive oil are the pride of the people who live in this region that extends from the Adrets de l'Estérel through Brignoles and on to Castellet.
Regusse area
Nearest village is Moissac-Bellevue and the nearest town is Regusse. At 600m Moissac-Bellevue has an exceptional view that extends from the Esterel massif, through that of the Maures, and on to the Ste. Baume mountains. The village has kept its true Provençal atmosphere with its cobblestone streets, steep stairways, and vaulted ocher houses. In Regusse there are the 15th and 16th c. restored mills (one still grinds flour), Notre Dame de la Misericorde Church and its glazed bell tower (1676). Aups which is a little further (9km)has a bit more to offer. The picturesque old streets testify to the rich past of Aups, you will notice the keystones on the houses, ancient fountains and sun dials. The renown of Aups is also due to its black truffle market every Thursday from November to February. Here you can see the ruins of a 12th c. fortified castle, doors and ramparts of the 12th and 16thc., the clock tower and its campanile, the Collegiate church St. Pancrace, the Ursuline convent (private cloister), Museum Simon Segal, Museum of Faskod (exhibition park).
In the Verdon Gorges and on the Lac du St Croix it is possible to take part in all of the following:- White water sports: rafting, canyoning, kayaking; Water sports: sailing, water skiing, fishing; Aerial sports: paragliding, free flight, gliding; Also possible are the following, climbing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. Personally I can vouch for the pedalo or canoe trip up the gorge and back and a spot of windsurfing on the beautiful lake.
Regusse has a summer swimming pool and tennis courts. Hunting for wild boar can be arranged in season.
Close to the villa there is a horse riding centre offering treks through the countryside. The area around is also ideal for cycling. Bicycles can be hired at the camp site and also in Aups opposite the Intermarche and in Baudinard.
There is golf available at Golf de la Sainte-Baume at Nans-Les-Pins which is approximately 1 hour away.
A permit has to be purchased for fishing. It is possible to fish in the Lac de St. Croix, however, the best places near the villa are the Quinson and Artignosc lakes. The permit is for the whole of the Var region including the sea (but from the beach only).
Apart from the close proximity of the Lac du St. Croix for beaches there is of course the Mediterranean coast at St. Raphael.
How to get there
Fly to Nice or Marseille international airport. Cheap flights available from Easyjet.co.uk and British Airways to either airport. Both airports have numerous hire car companies but essential to book the car you desire. Drive approximately 1.5 hours to Regusse. Travel by train to Les Arcs near Draguignan and our keyholder could pick up from there. Or drive from UK which usually requires an overnight stop en route.

Further details outdoors: The villa has lots of shady garden area, a veranda with barbecue overlooking pool, dining table and chairs plus sun loungers and parosol. Pool 8m x 4m with safety fencing and alarm - heated from May to September. There is a boules area, security gates and covered parking. Large woodland plot which is uncultivated and excellent for children to explore.
Fishing available nearby. Bicycles can be hired in the local area. Tennis available in Regusse.

30% deposit payable on booking (or paid in full if within 8 weeks of rental). Balance to be received 8 weeks before rental commences. Security deposit payable - £200 or 300 euros. Directions, key instructions etc. will be sent out within two weeks of rental. Arrival time from 4pm and departure before 10am.

Being a director of my own architects practice in Glasgow, the villa was finished and furnished to a very high standard and we all enjoyed the peace and quite of garden and the pool area for the 2 weeks we were 'resident' in the villa.
we travelled extensively around the area and visited many small villages to '..meet the locals..'. (Visitors July 2005)
Just a note to thank you for the user of your beautiful villa. Your photographs don't do the house justice. It must be the first holiday I had where I didn't want to leave.
