Home description
The house and its extensive garden is in a small, quiet hamlet in a superb scenic setting looking up into the Pratomagno Mountains. It is probably several hundred years old. It has two floors and is available either as a single house or as two separate, completely self-contained apartments, each sleeping up to 5, and each with its own cooking facilities and bathroom. The only connecting door may be kept locked. Each floor/apartment contains three rooms:
1) A living/dining room; both also useable as bedrooms as they contain double sofa-beds. The kitchen areas are fully equipped. 2) A large bedroom; both have very comfortable double beds and a folding single bed. 3) A bathroom; both containing a shower, WC, etc.
The house has been fully renovated in recent years and all traditional Tuscan features have been retained.
The availability calander only shows periods when BOTH apartments are booked. Our private website gives more comprehensive details, and also information about another independent property, adjacent to this one, which has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 6. See link in the Contact Details box at the foot of this page.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany contains some of Europe's most beautiful landscapes, along with the great cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa and Lucca. This is an area of great contrasts; from the mountains on the East side to the coastal plains and beaches on the West; from the tranquility of its green countryside to the great renaissance art and the contemporary sophistication of its cities. Tuscany is also well known for its wonderful wines, such as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and many others, and for its superb olive oil.
The climate ranges from hot (but seldom oppressively) in summer, to cool (but seldom bitterly cold) in winter. This climate, along with the vast array of things to do and see, makes Tuscany an ideal holiday destination at any time of year.
Reggello / Cascia area
The small rural communities of Cascia and nearby Reggello lie in the foothills of the beautiful Pratomagno mountains, on which the light is constantly changing. They are tree clad high up, descending into olive groves and small vineyards, punctuated by old buildings and lines of cypress trees. The area is renowned in this part of Italy for the freshness of the air, and the local olive oil is generally held to be amongst the finest in the world.
Cascia is a typical Tuscan village, famous for the Masaccio painting in the superb Romanesque church. There are several other fascinating small villages and towns nearby, many offering excellent walks, beautiful old churches and other ancient buildings and places of interest. Vallombrosa, a particularly famous beauty spot up in the mountains, is only a few kilometres away.
In Cascia and Reggello there is a large swimming pool, equestrian centre, cinema and several shops for all basic necessities, as well as a market on Saturdays. For people interested in finding a real bargain in the world of "haute couture" the nearby shopping centre called The Mall is home to the factory outlets of Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and other top designer labels. Not far away there is a similar Prada outlet.
Westwards lies the river Arno and the Chianti hills, producing the splendid wines of the same name. Around Cascia and Reggello there are far fewer tourists than in the Chianti heartland. Slightly further afield, the cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo, which are very easy to reach, offer a great variety of things to do and see. Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture is everywhere, there are theatres (some in the open-air), Roman and Etruscan ruins, shops and markets of every kind, as well as swimming baths, sports events and much more.

Guestbook
'Thank you for sharing your fantastic house and garden with us. We've had one of our most memorable holidays to date. We've gone for bike rides, done walks from the house, been to all the main places...We've dined at some superb restaurants, drunk fine wines, barbecued many times in your garden (what a spectacular setting), seen the amazing fireflies...had a trip to The Mall (gulp) where I bought a beautiful leather bag for a fraction of the price I would pay here...can't wait to go again...perfect location for that area and all its wonderful sites and places to visit...Thank you again for a fantastic holiday.' W & J T (Derby)
'We found our stay absolutely wonderful. The 'Suggestions Book' was truly excellent. It encouraged us to walk around the vicinity as well as visit the historic towns nearby. Neither of us wanted to leave by the end of our stay.' (A honeymoon couple, Worcestershire).
