The Brittany / Ille-et-Vilaine region
South Brittany has a sunnier and warmer climate than the north coast, with exceptionally mild winters allowing exotic plants such as mimosa and palm trees to flourish. Any holidaymaker in this area will feel the sense of tradition and pride that the Bretons have for their region. Most towns and villages have local fairs with traditional music and dancing, and of course the local cuisine. Brittany is very rural, with a huge coast line so dishes are mainly based on sea-food, game and fresh vegetables, with puddingsand pastries such as the famous "Farr Breton" and pancakes playing a major part in the Breton diet.
Rich in history, there are numerous castles to visit such as the Chateau of Josselin, Suscinio, Plessis-Josso, and Branfere (home of a nature and wild-life park full of discoveries for children). The area offers a variety of water activities, hire a motor boat or join a cruise on the river Villaine, discover the marsh area of the Briere by Canoe, or take a boat trip to one of the islands in the gulf of the Morbihan
Redon / Saint Just area
Saint-Just is a listed natural site famous for its flora and fauna and boasts the second most important megalithic site in France. The "Maison de Megaliths" offers infomation on the site and proposes walking trails. In the summer, moonlight tours, musical and story-telling events, prehistoric and nature workshops are organised. Saint-Just is also a site for rock climbing, and nearby, Canoes and Kayaks can be hired proposing excursions from 1 hour or the day.
