The Brittany / Ille-et-Vilaine region
The coast, particularly at the western tip, is irregular and rocky, with natural harbours (especially at Brest, Lorient, and Saint-Malo) and numerous islands. Important rivers include the Odet and Vilaine. The people of Brittany have retained many of the old customs and traditions, which helps to make it a fascinating place to visit. Breton, their Celtic language (similar to Welsh), is spoken in the western part of the region in the rural areas. Brittany has remarkable stone calvaries, some built at the close of the 16th Century, to ward off the plague. Many megalithic monuments, formerly ascribed to the druids, cover the Breton landscape, notably at Carnac. These sights and the local traditions (old-fashioned peasant dress and high lace headgear, processions, and pilgrimages), which its inhabitants jealously maintain, have made Brittany an outstanding tourist attraction. Perfect location for "Le Tour De France". See three Bretagne stages See the riders a short walk to Besle watch them whizz by over the bridge of the Vilaine river.
Redon / Langon Village area
Whether you fancy a bit of peace and quiet or want to explore the local historical sites. langon has something for everyone. The village is listed as an area of oustanding natural beauty, making it an idyllic location for people who are looking to escape the pressures of everyday life.
La Gacilly is the birthplace of Yves Rocher, who produces natural beauty products using plants from their Botanical gardens. The Yves Rocher discovery tour is part of an effort to encourage economic growth and is the expression of the company's desire to participate in the development of tourism in Brittany. With its more than 1,000 plant species, the "Yves Rocher Botanical Garden" covers a surface area of 20,000 square meters. The Yves Rocher company invites you to discover its collection of plants used in food, medecine, perfume and also in industrial products such as dyes or fibres. The "Yves Rocher Botanical Garden" is a member of the World Society for Nature and Botanical Gardens' Conservation (IUICN).
