The Midi-Pyrenees is a wealth of countryside and towns to explore, truly unspoiled France. The Sidobre National park is 20 mins drive with its historic boulders and graded walks. Boat hire on the Canal du Midi, 40 minutes drive, and Gaillac, Minervois & St Chinian vineyards ( and tasting) within easy drive. The nearest supermarket is 15 minutes drive and the area is steeped in brocantes. At Castres there is a large pool complex, ice skating rink and good 9 hole golf course with range and practice area. can. The rugby team is in the top 16 and 1st match is end of August. Tickets are usually easily available. Albi is also top 16. Cordes sur Ciel has a classical music festival every July and a good modern art gallery. Castres has a Goya & Jean Jaures museum. There is also an annual summer festival of dance. Albi is a World Heritage site and has a permanent Toulouse Lautrec exhibition featuring his life work. The imposing cathedral is a masterpiece of supreme architecture and the surrounding ancient buildings provide a wealth of interesting shops and restaurants. Carcassonne is a walled city with many tourist attractions and the old Carcassonne is a bustling city with much to offer.Toulouse, famous for violets, is a beautiful university city with music/shops restaurants to suit all ages & tastes.. Ax-les-Thermes is 2x1/2 hr drive for skiing & thermal baths. The immediate area is of countryside filled with sunflower fields and farms, all set in rolling hills and beautiful scenery. It is an area of France that is still very French with few tourists.

Montredon Labessonnie offers a choice of good local shops, including a pharmacy, butcher, small supermarket, patisseries. It has a bank, several doctors, hairdressers, post office, cinema, bars and local festivities. Local night markets take place in the summer months. Nearby Realmont has a wonderful weekly market, and Castres provides a more sophisticated shopping experience having been substantially renovated over the past few years. Albi is a 30 minute drive, and there is a wealth of further places to visit, for art, architecture, scenery, history.Local lakes offer watersports, beaches and swimming. There are excellent restaurants to be recommended in the area.

The area is great for cycling (from top of drive and off-road), bird watching, wild flowers and animals (including deer and hare) and walking from these properties. We have 4 road bikes available to borrow (2 mens, 2 womens.) The 2013 Tour de France will pass through Albi and Castres on 5/6 July 2013. The renowned garlic festival at Lautrec is on Friday August 2nd 2013.
