The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region

In the heart of the Salzburgerland in the Hohe Tauern National Park the spectacular Rauris valley is perfect for year round getaways for the whole family whether full of adventure and excitement or peace and tranquillity.

Once you cross the Salzach Valley you will climb into the tranquil and idyllic high valley of the Salzburger Land. Spectacular views abound with views up the valley towards the Schönblick glacier.

The ski area in Rauris is centred around the Hochalm. The Hochalmbahn gondola to the ski area is a very short 150M walk from Manuela. This takes skiers up to 1780M from where even beginners can make their way down the wide tree-line blue runs. A restaurant awaits at the mid-station offering stunning views whilst recovery is taken through delicious Austrian fare possibly washed down with a beer, glühwein or maybe a coffee!

More experienced skiers can take the Gipfellbahn gondola up to 2211M although the runs down from here are still blue, albeit long!

Alternative uplift is made by taking the Kruezeboden lift which offers a good variety of red and blue runs and of course is linked to the other area of the mountain.

Rauris endeavours to create a lot of attractions for boarders including a natural terrain park, free ride powder sector and a boardercross course which are normally available from December through to April.

Although not promoted in the UK as a resort for advanced skiers, there is at least one great black run, the 3km long descent from Heimalm below the lower gondola section. A good local guide will be able to show you some of the 'secrets' of the mountain which, of course, are best shared after fresh snow!

For variety, why not upgrade your ski pass to the "Salzburg Super Ski Card". This will give you access to 2200km of skiing/boarding in 23 different ski areas! This includes Gastein, Schladming, Kitzbühel, Zell am See and Obertauern to name a few.

A cross country skiing trail passes directly in front of the Schönblick Mountain Resort, providing access to 40 kms of cross-country tracks in the Rauris valley.

Golf
Zell am See Golf Club 18km
36 fairways and flawless greens, perfectly primed fairways and an unparalleled lake ambiance: both of the 18-hole championship courses of the Golf Club will captivate you with their one-of-a-kind picturesque scenery. This blend of unspoiled nature and optimally constructed golf courses is appreciated by professional players and inexperienced beginners alike. When are you going to unpack the driver?

The 'Schmittenhöhe' and 'Kitzsteinhorn' courses, named for the local mountains of the region, make up the largest golf resort of the Austrian Alps. During the season, athletes from all over the world improve their handicaps here and show that they have what it takes during the tournaments.

Other courses easliy accessable:-
Golfclub Goldegg 28km
Golfclub Urslautal 24km
Golf Club Gastein - Bas Gastein 38km

The variety is endless and the walks can range from high alpine hiking to relaxed meadow walks. In the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park surrounding by 3000m peaks Rauris offers 295km of marked trails to offer spectacular walking to all ages and abilities.
Why not try taking the gondola up the mountain and then walk down?

Biking
Rauris is linked to the Pinzgau Mountain Biking network, which offers 750km of spectacular cycle trails. Whether you are looking for a relaxing family ride or some serious challenges you will find what you are looking for. Bike rentals are available in the village.

White Water Rafting/Canyoning
Enjoy the thrills of shooting the rapids in an inflatable raft down the Salzach river. All you need to bring are your swimming costumes and a towel - wetsuits, life jacket etc. are provided.

For something different, why not try Canyoning? This gives you the opportunity to scramble, abseil, swim and jump down the waterfalls of the Rauriserache river in the Kitzlochklamm gorge.
