The Salzburg Region
Home to some of the most famous ski resorts in the Austrian Alps, Salzburgerland boasts breathtaking panoramas.
The oldest ski resort in Austria, Rauris was originally a gold mining village. Rauris is approximately 60 minutes drive from Salzburg Airport and nestled in the heart of Austria’s beautiful Hohe Tauern National Park. Until recently this pretty village was largely undiscovered by British families but its relaxed pistes, lack of queues, cosy atmosphere and fabulous ski schools are luring a loyal clientele back to the resort year after year.
The apartment and the village are fantastic for families or groups of friends wanting a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. Rauris is small but perfectly formed with all the facilities you would want in a resort but none of the baggage that comes from mass-tourism.
The four restaurants on the mountain offer a good mix of traditional staples (spaghetti bolognese, grilled chicken etc.) and more authentic Austrian fare all at sensible prices. The restaurants and bars in the village cater for most tastes with a combination of Italian and Austrian dishes appearing on most menus. For those seeking fine dining there is also the excellent Restaurant Gusto. Children are particularly welcomed and well catered for throughout the village with a whole host of activities to keep them busy when they’re not on the slopes, including night-time sledging and sleigh rides.
The skiing/boarding is ideal for beginners/intermediates that enjoy well-groomed, wide pistes with no queues. The majority of the skiing is above 1650m and peaks at 2200m. Snow cannons now cover all the runs into the resort, which lies at 900m. In total there are 36 km of marked runs. For those, like me, that are bothered by the type of lifts available in a resort there are two gondolas (6-seat and 8-seat) that carry you (via three stations) to the summit, five drag lifts (t-bars and buttons) and one chair lift. Whilst the drag lifts aren’t ideal for boarders they are very well groomed every day so there are no bumps or nasty cross-slopes.
If you enjoy the social-side of ski-school the Karl Maier school really hits the spot. It has 20 or so enthusiastic instructors catering to all abilities and offering encouragement all the way; culminating in the awards ceremony on Thursday night when each class (children and adults) gets the chance to socialise together, pick up awards for their timed runs and generally let their hair down. Entertainment is provided by the ski instructors, which is interesting, but it all makes for a memorable end to everyone’s skiing week

"Fantastic View & Great Destination - Rauris, Austria"
Fantastic penthouse apartment - highest in the complex and therefore has the best clear views across the rooftops to the mountain valley. Clean, large bedrooms with comfortable beds, clean modern bathrooms. 3 flights of stairs did take us some getting use too, but worth it for the views from all the bedrooms. Rauris is a lovely summer spot to visit for the family, complex has a small indoor pool for any rainy days but the village has an impressive outside pool. This was our third time to Rauris, which is a great spot for exploring the area and with the Salzburger Card it makes it quite a cheap holiday. Looking forward to next year. Thanks for Gill for dealing with our booking.

"Very good apartment, beautiful location"
A large group of us(4 adults, 3 children) had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday here and would definitely recommend it.
The apartment is spacious and suitable for large groups with 4 genuine bedrooms. The views of the surrounding area of mountains and hills are stunning and, as others have mentioned, this is amongst the best of the apartments on site for location with its elevated position. It was reasonably well appointed with large TV, DVD player, dishwasher and Wi-Fi that worked well. A hair dryer in the apartment would be useful though.
The bedrooms were comfortable but short on drawer space with just one wardrobe in each and no drawers. That would improve the place easily in our opinion. Also, as others have mentioned, a little patio furniture would be nice-after all the views are so spectacular that you want to make the most of them!
The little village of Rauris is a 5 minute stroll away and is very pretty. It has a few shops, supermarket, restaurants, small museum, a fantastic outdoor pool and pubs on hand. Rauris is a good base to explore other parts of Austria as long as you have a car.
The pool at the complex is good, not one for swimming lengths but great for a cool down dip after a hard day enjoying yourself :-) The jacuzzi, outdoor but under cover, with stunning views of the mountains was a particular favourite.
Couple of slight negatives. When we arrived the bedding wasn't sorted out for us and there wasn't a lot of help from reception when they were told this. The advert also specifies a clean after the first week-but the local management weren't willing to provide this. I suspect both of these were local issues rather than anything to do with the owner.
Word of warning: if arriving late on a Saturday ALL the shops locally and most other places too are closed on a Sunday, so be prepared!
Gill, the owner, was very helpful indeed and communications with her could not have been better.
In our opinion the apartment offered excellent value for money.
Overall we had a great holiday and I'd thoroughly recommend the area and the appartment for a summer holiday to anyone

"Very comfortable for families with young children"
We had a very enjoyable and comfortable skiing holiday in the apartment (6 adults with 3 young children). The apartment is spacious, well equiped, good value for money and has good location both to the local ski lifts and the village. My only comment is that the apartment is not fully child proofed (internal staircase without security gate, open plugs) and for some families with very young children this may be an issue. The local ski area I would recommend more for beginner and intermediate skiers or families with younger children.

"Lovely apartment with fine views"
We very much enjoyed our stay in Rauris. The area has stunning scenery with plenty to see and do, and the village of Rauris is perfect - a proper Alpine village with several restaurants and bars a 5 minute walk away - not a purpose built ski resort. The apartment is one of the best on the resort, on the top floor of a block set higher than most of the others, affording fine views of the valley and mountains. It is well-appointed and comfortable and the free wifi was a major bonus for our daughters. We would definitely recommend it for a summer holiday.

"Comfortable and stylish apartment. Good value for money."
We spent a week in Rauris and very much enjoyed our stay. The valley is extremely picturesque and even though the weather was changeable and quite chilly for August some of the time we had a wonderful time walking in a different side valley every day.
The village is absolutely beautiful, with the most scenic public pool we had ever seen within easy walking distance of the apartment. In fact, everything you need is within easy walking distance - shops of all kinds, supermarket, cafes, restaurants.
The apartment block is surrounded by other, similar blocks. We were high up, so had nice views from the balconies, but could also see into other people's windows. I don't think we would have enjoyed the apartment as much had we been lower down. We would very much have appreciated some balcony furniture. The four bedrooms were very comfortable and we also managed to fit in two teenagers on the sofa bed. Unfortunately, they said they weren't comfortable there. Everything worked well in the apartment and we enjoyed the large TV and DVD player and liked having a dishwasher and washing machine. There was no clothes dryer, but the office found one for us. The children enjoyed the swimming pool in the complex, but it wasn't really big enough for adult lengths.
