The South East England region
Ramsgate is a seaside town in the district of Thanet in east Kent, England. It was one of the great English seaside towns of the 19th century and is a member of the ancient confederation of Cinque Ports. Ramsgate's main attraction is its coastline and its main industries are tourism and fishing.
The town has one of the largest marinas on the English south coast and Port of Ramsgate has provided cross channel ferries for many years.Ramsgate's harbour is a defining characteristic of the town.
The construction of Ramsgate Harbour began in 1749 and was completed in about 1850. The Harbour has the unique distinction of being the only Royal Harbour in the United Kingdom. Because of its proximity to mainland Europe, Ramsgate was a chief embarkation point both during the Napoleonic Wars and for the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940.
Ramsgate has on average 17% more sunshine than the rest of the UK and the Isle of Thanet is justifiably proud of its' beautiful, sandy beaches and continually strives to attain high standards of water quality and beach cleanliness. This has been recognised and acknowledged in the record number of Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards Thanet has achieved.
There is a wealth of activities in the area, from cycling on the Viking Trail, to horse riding at Nelson Park and bird-watching at Monkton. Points of interest include:
Monkton Nature Reserve
This East Kent reserve is set in 16 beautiful acres of abandoned chalk quarry, which has been dramatically reclaimed by nature. It features many important habitats, fascinating geology and rare orchids. It also houses the Thanet Observatory and the first artificial bat cave built in the UK. Facilities include a well equipped field centre with a large reference library, bookshop and picnic site. http://www.monkton-reserve.org/
The Saxon Shore Way is long distance walking route named after the line of historic fortifications that defended the Kent coast at the end of the Roman era. The 160 mile (257km) route from the bustling port of Gravesend to the popular seaside town of Hastings, offers some of the finest coastal walking in England.
Throughout the summer there are various festival and sailing events. Ramsgate Week in August is a super-friendly international regatta - the alternative to Cowes.
More information on what's on in Thanet can be obtained from the Thanet Tourism Website http://www.visitthanet.co.uk/whats-on/

"I keep coming back to this beautiful apartment"
We have stayed at Regency House for about five years in a row now. The apartment is the cleanest I have ever stayed in (I am a real obsessive with housework, so thats saying something!). The facilities are excellent with a large well equipped kitchen and very spacious lounge which is great for playing games in the evening.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are attractive and cleaned to the highest standard.
Thank you Carol, looking forward to seeing you in July.

"Home from home..."
As regular visitors with a long standing fondness for Ramsgate and it's history, we really felt we'd struck lucky with our first stay at Regency House. The personal welcome upon our arrival gave us the opportunity to ask questions specific to our personal needs and of course to put a face to the name! The home is located a short walk from the beach, the shops and the Royal Harbour. There is a pub on the corner of the road, that looks out to the sea and provides good freshly cooked meals (handy for the first night!) and some nights has live music. Art lovers may recognise the view from the house towards the pub from Van Gogh's pencil sketches. He was also fond of the area and lived a few doors away.
Whatever the days involved for us, coming 'home' to a clean, comfortable house, with everything we could need to wind down - tv; dvds; music; sit out on the balcony in warm weather; chill out in the stylish lounge in cooler weather; hot shower in the en-suite before flopping into bed.
We have found our stays here positive and relaxing. So much so, we have returned on numerous occasions. It feels like home from home.

"Excellent Apartment for to stay with family/ friends"
It met all our expectations, fresh interiors, fully equipped kitchen, bedrooms with wardrobes and clean bathrooms
