About this location
The Tuscany region
The region is located in the central, western part of the country, north of Rome and south of Genoa. It is bounded by the Apennine Mountains to the North and East, the Apuan Alps on the northwest and by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the West.
From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the best repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.
Tuscany: a row of cypress trees breaking the blue sky on a rolling hilltop. Olive groves and grapevines marching tidily down the side of a slope. Little medieval hill towns gazing down upon a country that has been carefully cultivated.
Florence is the capital of Tuscany. Other cities are Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Prato, Lucca, Livorno, Grosseto, Massa Carrara.
Siena is one of the most popular destinations for travelers to Tuscany. Siena is home to the famous horse race, the Palio, held in Siena's unusual central square.
The larger town with all kinds of services is Colle Val d’Elsa at approx. 27 km, San Gimignano 35 km, Siena 40 km, Florence 75 km, Pisa 95 km, whist the beaches of the Tuscan coast are within easy reach, at less than an hour's car journey away.
Nearest airports: Florence 80 km, Pisa 95 km, Bologna 190 km, Rome 257 km.

"Nice outdoors but missing a few comforts."
We stayed at Virgiulius in September 2012.
The garden, pool and view are beautiful and very peaceful.
The owners are very kind but absence of english and any printed renters guide
made handover somewhat of a challenge for English renters.
My opinion is that this rental is overpriced for the degree of furnishings
and facilities. There were no cushions or pads for the pool loungers / furniture
and the kitchen had rather old equipment and no background pantry supplies (except salt). I would recommend the owners upgrade the accomodation a little or charge less than 1350 Euros for the week.
