The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Nimes is the gateway to this fascinating region of southern France . Divided into five departments the Languedoc region offers huge variety for a truly memorable holiday . From guided walks and mountain biking in the hot summers to Nordic skiing and husky rides in the winter ( the Cevennes National park has been kept free of intensive farming and over-development and has become a refuge for wildlife . Beaches at Sete and Le Grande Motte offer regional specialities and spectacular sea food , traditional bull fighting in the Arena at Nimes and historical Roman sites for example The Pont Du Gard and the Roman garrison town of Uzes are all worth visiting .

One of the largest wine producing areas of France ,the Languedoc offers many opportunities for wine tasting along most of the main routes in the region . Picturesque towns and villages like Sommiere, Bagnols sur Ceze ,Saint Jean du Gard and Anduze with their flourishing summer and winter markets are great places to taste some of the regional specilaities from Goats cheese to Chestnut cakes and liqueur.

Saint Nazaire is a tiny hamlet at the foothills to the Cevenes surrounded by vineyards . This old silk worm Mas is 8 km from the nearest towns of Anduze and Quissac . There are markets weekly at Anduze, St Jean du Gard and Sauve a tiny medieval village some 7 km away. During the summer months there are various festivals to celebrate the Bull chasing traditions in most of the villages surrounding the property . A local steam train will take you deep into the Cevennes where you can learn about the local produce and the fascinating travel journals of Robert Louis Stevenson and his donkey Modestine .

For the adventurous there are plenty of guided walks and caves to explore and canoeing half an hour away . A market trip to Uzes is highly recommended .

"Fabulous property, fabulous holiday"

La Faugiere is a beautifully equipped, comfortable house in a lovely setting.
Within easy reach of some lovely old towns we had some lovely days out as well as lounging by the beautiful pool area.
I would highly recommend this holiday location for families as well as groups of friends.
