The Algarve region
The Algarve is a well-loved holiday destination for families, golfers, sport-lovers and couples; its perfect, sunny climate and bracing Atlantic coastline bring holidaymakers back time and time again. The Central Algarve has many attractions to fill your days. Apart from beaches, swimming, golf, tennis, water sports, fishing, cycling and hiking, for all the family there are are excellent water parks, Karting, Zoomarine, the sand sculptures at Pera. Discover historic sites at Silves and Sagres, further along the coast. You can drive to Spain in around an hour, visit Seville in two hours.
Visit some of the delightful inland villages, where it seems that time has stood still. Shop at the markets for a bargain and eat a delicious 'pastel de nata', a custard tart with your coffee, like the locals. Take an excursion to Cliff Richard's vineyard and spot the celebrities in the restaurants and boutiques.
The Central Algarve is a gastronomic haven, with humble cafes to Michelin-starred restaurants, encompassing cuisines from around the world. The freshest fish, simply grilled in a Portuguese restaurant takes some beating! Try the beach bars, where the setting and fun, relaxed holiday atmosphere will delight you, as will the food. The Portuguese love children and will welcome them to restaurants, no problem.
The Algarve really is the perfect holiday destination!
Quinta do Lago
Quinta do Lago is a quality destination a mere 20 minutes from Faro Airport. Over 1,500 acres of natural pine forest, bordered by the Ria Formosa, a UNESCO protected nature reserve and miles of pristine sandy beach where it meets the Atlantic, the beauty and tranquility of the estate are undeniable. Low-rise development and high property prices have ensured its exclusivity, and low-key luxury.
On the estate, among the fabulous privately owned villas you will find four golf courses, banks, Post Office, a tennis centre, various tourist and holiday villages, restaurants, a water sports centre, a driving range and golf academy, a medical centre, and so much more. The two shopping centres have a bank, cashpoints, restaurants and coffee shops, phytopharmacy, hairdressing and beauty and a full range of interesting boutiques and gift shops.
You will want to explore the region, but Quinta do Lago has everything you need for the perfect holiday.

"Fantastic Family Holiday"
We were looking for a self catering option in Portugal within a short drive from the airport (two small children to consider) and this development seemed to suit perfectly. Having received excellent directions from Lesley the owner we arrived with minimum fuss. Check-in was likewise easy. We bought WiFi access for 24 hours @ €6.95. This is 24 hours cumulative usage, not 24 hours on the clock so it was more than sufficient for our 12 day stay. The house/villa itself backed out onto the golf course and the views were quite picturesque. There is an open plan living/dining area with two double doors out onto the patio area. Flat screen TV had 30+ channels but not the domestic UK & Ireland channels due to some change with satellites for the region. All Sky Sports channels and Sky One was there however as well as UK Gold and a non-standard BBC channel. The kitchen is small but fantastically stocked with more than you could need. The thing we especially liked was there were things like washing up liquid, cloths, dishwasher tabs, Clingfilm, cooking oil, salt & pepper etc. there already, things you normally need to buy once you get to rented accommodation. There is also a separate area off the kitchen for a washer/dryer. We liked that it is closed off with two doors so the noise doesn't affect you. Patio is well kitted out as well with table and chairs and two loungers. The only downside is the local birds seem to use the area for lots of target practice! That said, when housekeeping came to do some light cleaning they seemed to sweep and wash down the area. Both bedrooms upstairs have air-con (as does the living area downstairs) which we really needed on the first two nights as it was unseasonably hot. Both the main bathroom and en-suite of the main bedroom had fantastic water pressure - same for the kitchen - so baths and showers were brilliant. Other reviews of similar properties mention the decor is a little dated, especially when compared with the refurbished units that Diamond Resorts manage onsite. We saw these and they were really nice and contemporary but overall it didn't impact our stay or enjoyment whatsoever. POINT TO NOTE: If someone from Diamond resorts checks in with you and says they will take you on a guided tour please be aware that they will be trying to get you to sign up to their club at the end. Probably naive on our part but we didn't expect that and thought the tour was just part of the onsite experience. Had we known we would have been upfront and refused the tour. That said they chap was not pushy and the tour was great but a bit more transparency from the outset would have been better. We always drove to the pool complex but you could definitely walk there if you explored the shortcuts between the various houses. Both outdoor pools were great and for the couple of occasions things clouded over we used the indoor pool. It's not that big but suited us perfectly and has a hot tub beside it. You can rent towels and need bathing caps for indoor pool . There are poolside loungers with umbrellas and there was no problem dragging some of these up onto the grassy bank under the trees for more shade on the really hot days. The bar/food area seemed to do well even though we didn't avail of it. There is also a shaded/covered area for kids right beside the smaller outdoor pool with swings, a slide, see-saw, table tennis and darts. Pool table and table tennis also up beside bar area so good for older kids and adults. Having a car is essential for getting out and about. Onsite supermarket was good but obviously a little more expensive than the local supermarket at Quinta shopping. This is at the 'Q' roundabout about 5 min drive from the house. Well enough stocked and should have most of what you need. Further afield there is Pingo Doce in Almancil that's easy to get to and an Aldi on the same road if you just continue on straight. Beach is only about 15 minutes away, a left off the main road to Vale de Lobo. The area is beautiful, immaculately manicured and everything you need is easily accessible. Lesley was particularly helpful and took a lot of the legwork out of things for us with the info she sent. Overall a great family holiday and we would return.
We're pleased to see you enjoyed yourselves and got to know the area well. I'm glad all the information was useful to you also. Thank you for your own handy tip!
