The Western Australia / Perth Metro Area
Perth is a young modern city with excellent transport / infrastructure. With a population of a little over 1.5 million we are a small city by world standards, yet we offer everything anyone could desire. Our best attribute are our stunning beaches - forget what you've heard about Queensland - our beaches are longer, wider, whiter, cleaner and less populated and the best thing in the world to see is a beautiful sunset over the Indian Ocean. The City Centre is a place of great change, currently undergoing a building boom of apartments and office skyscrapers, all driven by the commodities boom. It sits alongside the expansive Swan River and is overlooked by the "jewel" that is Kings Park, a large natural bush public reserve with facilities including playgrounds, fountains, cafe's, restaurant's, public BBQ's, exquisite views over the Swan and City, our botanical gardens and our main war memorial. The 'metro area' of Perth is distinctly divided by the Swan, 'The North' and 'The South' both with their own character and specific attractions ( and biased loyalties ). Both are dissected by the freeway and train system's, making transport relatively easy ( not so during peak times ). To the East of Perth lies the 'Darling Range' a relatively small range that separates the coastal plain from the productive agricultural region. At the foot of the "hills" lies our 'Swan Valley' a veritable treasure trove of wineries, great restaurants, unique outlets such as the 'chocolate factory', nougat shop, and quirky gift shops.
Quinns Rocks / Somerly area
Closer to 'Somerly Sunsets' you will find the delightful 'Mindarie Marina' with pubs, cafe's, ice creamery and four star hotel, all overlooking the boats. For a fun afternoon with a difference, grab a table at the 'Indian Ocean Brewery' with a view to the trailable boat launch & retrieve ramp. Harmlessly enjoy yourself at the expense of the tired weekend fisherman / woman attempting to load their boats or enviously watch the experienced unload their catch.
Hillarys Boat Harbour is a bigger marina further down the coast, at Sorrento. Here you will find a plethora of eateries and boutiques, some exquisite, some unique, all very entertaining. There is a fun park for the kid's or at the South end of the harbour you will find AQWA ( Aquarium of W.A. ) - well worth a visit - displays include a touch pool, dangerous locals, and a moving platform that takes you under and around the main aquarium.
To the North, with in a long days drive you will discover 'The Pinnacles' a unique limestone creation of nature that defies explanation. It's like a forest of stelignites / steligites, but without the cave. This area is famous during our Spring ( Sept-Nov ) the native wildflowers will blow you away with their carpets of colour. We recommend the 'Pinnacles Wildflower Shop' in Cervantes and visit www.wildflowerswa.com.au for more info. Closer to 'home' is the beautiful 'Yanchep National Park' well worth a day trip. Ensure you check out the 'Yanchep Inn' for a quiet one, then late in the afternoon visit the golf course to witness the Black Cockies come home to roost and see the kangaroo's feeding on the 'greens' before heading home yourself.
Perth's newest satellite city is 'Joondalup' two train stop's to the South of Clarkson. Here you will find pub's & clubs, a major regional shopping complex, cinemas, restaurants and cafe's. In the nearby business park is 'Darklight Laser Tag Centre' a fun place for the adrenalin deprived. www.darklight.com.au For those seeking a more peaceful activity we suggest 'Neil Hawkins Park', between Joondalup city centre and 'Lake Joondalup' - take some native birdseed and have the friendly native birds feed from your hands, sit on your head, shoulders & arms. ( I did say sit - but take tissues )
Other places worthy - 'Botanical Golf', 'The Maze', 'Joondalup Golf Resort', 'Joondalup Arena - Aquatic Centre', 'Craigie Leisure Centre & Pool', 'Whitfords Shopping Centre', 'Adventure World', Fremantle City & fishing boat harbour, 'Rons Riding Ranch'
How to get there
Most major car hire Co's. are available @ Perth International & Domestic airports, our personal favourite is Budget. Taxis are available, however delays are common and fee's are high.

Guestbook for Somerly Sunsets
"All the family loved it. Great location." Peter - January 2008
"....was a lovely house!" Kristin - January 2008
"Well appointed accommodation, open and airy very private and thoroughly enjoyed out stay." Don & Tina - January 2008
My family had a great 2-week stay in Somerly sunset and enjoyed the convenience of the location of the house to the shops and even the train station. The rooms were comfortable and the welcome pack left for us (milk, eggs, tea, coffee and lasagne) was very thoughtful. The view of sunrises were amazing from the kitchen. Thanks Jenny for your kind attention to ensure our stay would be comfortable. Serena - August 2007
This house was absolutely lovely. It was clean and tidy and there was bits and pieces there for us, ie...coffee, toilet rolls etc, to keep us going for the day until we made it to the shop. It has beautiful views to sit out back and relax, and lots of space inside. The shops and resurant and bar were all walking distance for us. We will definitly stay there again! Mary - February 2007
