The Brittany region

Brittany has a wealth of historical and megalithic sites, an amazing coast line, beautiful rolling green countryside, there are small working fishing ports where you can see the fisherman arrive and depart and numerous islands waiting to be visited. Every town has a market day - Auray is particularly good.

Places to visit are too numerous to list - here are just a few;

* The historic town of Quimper, the capital of Finistère, with its Gothic cathedral, ramparts, museums and old busy quarters, shops and markets offers many festivals all year round.

* The Gulf of Morbihan - a bird spotters dream

* Pont Aven is a must see with its links to the Impressionists and biscuiteries

* Concarnou - the ancient walled town - what a surprise!

* Carnac - a world renowned Megalithic site

Quimperle

A Gateway to Cornouaille and Finistère and only a stone’s throw from the sea with its sandy beaches, Quimperlé is packed with appeal and will seduce you all year round with its many activities and events. Uniting the seaside with the countryside, this charming town combines an important heritage with a relaxed pace of life.  From the upper town to the historic quarter, along picturesque alleyways and down cobbled steps, across pretty bridges, the town is just waiting to be discovered.

Querrien has a general store, boulangeries, butchers, tabac, bars, creperie - all you need. There are walks and 18th century bread ovens to discover amongst other things.

"Rustic tranquility"

A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. Julie was very welcoming and had plenty of information about the area. The cottage was simply decorated with loads of hot water in the modern bathroom and sho… More

"Beautiful property, beautiful location, we'll be back next year!"

We enjoyed a wonderful week here with our 18 month old. Julie was a fantastic hostess and nothing was too much trouble - the brand new highchair and paddling pool were much appreciated! The photos don't do justice to the location. The views are incredible and it's a rural paradise, our little boy loved chasing the friendly chickens around the beautiful garden. The location is great too, with nice food shops in walking distance and lots of fantastic restaurants nearby. All in all, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely, relaxing holiday, particularly with children. We hope to book again for next year!

So looking forwaed to seeing you next year, thanks for a wonderful review.

What a find! Deep in the heart of the French countryside but an easy 15 minute drive of a charming French market town, a lovely characterful converted barn, within easy reach of Brittany's unsp… More

"A little slice of heaven in Les Avens - Brittany"

Hmmmm where to begin......amazing grounds for the girls (5 and 3yrs) to run around in, fantastic hospitality from Julie and Alan (like visting distant relatives) and perfectly placed to visit the beach and other interesting places around Les Avens.
Highlights of our trip included the many beaches recommended by Julie and Alan in the information booklet, a trip to the Chapel of Sainte-Barbe du Faouet (Rapunzel's house according to my girls!), a walk around Roches du Diable and a cycle along the Green Way starting at Pays de Rosporden.
We hope to come back soon.

PS And lovely home-made apricot jam/home-grown green beans x

Thanks for a great review. It was lovely to meet you and your gorgeous girls. We loved the drawing in the visitors book and the many pictures around the house. Hope to see you next year.

"Could be so much better"

The owners house and the 2 gites are for sale, the owners, whilst lovely people appear to have lost interest in the business.
Major concern, the smoke alarm was open with no battery in it.
A couple of gripes, WiFi is advertised, but not available, "we need to get someone in to fix it" Satelilite TV didn't work on our arrival, the box was changed and TV was available but no remote for the box was forthcoming.
Dishwasher in the property, but no washing machine.
Steep open staircase, with somewhat rickety bannisters on the landing is not ideal for very young children, or people with mobility problems.
The gite was spotlessly clean on our arrival, the location is quiet and peaceful, yet close to many place worth visiting, Quimperle is an intersting town, whilst Pont Aven is stunning. The pizza van in Querrien is worth a visit if you don't fancy cooking.
Steep open staircase, not ideal for very young children, or people with mobility problems.

I am disappointed with this response, as we work hard to ensure our guests have everything they need. We do not advertise a washing machine with this property, but always offer the use of ours! Whoops forgot to put the battery in the fire alarm - sorry! As for Wi-fi it is available at numerous places around the cottages, just can't get it to travel through two 2'6" walls and 'Orange' will not speak to the range extender, despite numerous attempts by various people. We do not advertise this cottage as suitable for people with mobility problems and all the children who have stayed with us have not had any problems. We are selling up, due to family commitments, with regret as we love running the gites and meeting new people.

"Perfect getaway location"

We stumbled upon this completely by accident and it was such a nice surprise to find such attention to detail and such a lovely location.
The hosts went out of their way to make us feel relaxed and comfortable.
It exceeded all expectations. Make sure you ask them for restaurant recommendation, we had the most amazing meal at a place 10 mins drive away.

"Excellent location with great hosts!"

A great place for rest and relaxation. The gite is well equipped with modern facilities and a wonderful view of the countryside, best enjoyed with wine!

The hosts Alan & Julie were very welcoming and really went the extra mile for us when we had a medical drama in the middle of the first night. Not everyone would have driven us to two hospitals at 3 AM!

In summary - great place & great people and I'd happily recommend both for a great holiday.
