About the home

This newly restored barn is in a superb position between the elegant seaside resort of Benodet and the beautiful cultural town of Quimper. It has the charm and character of an old property combined with the modern convenience of a new house. We highly recommend this property; as well as being only a short drive to beautiful sandy beaches there is so much to do and see in this fascinating part of Brittany.

The property is in a secluded location at
the end of a long private driveway (care needed as there are some bumps and
pot-holes!) only used by a couple of properties. It has the charm and
character of an old property combined with the modern convenience of a new
house. The interior is very spacious and is newly decorated throughout.
Ground floor: Small sitting room with comfortable seating. Very spacious and
attractive kitchen/dining room with high ceiling and exposed beams. It is
modern, stylish and well equipped with oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer,
dishwasher, washing machine and electric kettle. This room opens onto the
garden. Twin bedroom with en suite bathroom (also accessible from the hall).
Separate WC.
First floor: Three more bedrooms: one large room with a double bed, another
with twin beds, and the third with bunk beds. Attractive shower room and WC.
Outside: The
garden is very large, mostly grass and mature trees; there is also a barbecue
and furniture for outdoor dining. Parking.
Notes: Cot,
high chair and bicycle hire may be arranged if requested in advance.. Compulsory end clean 50€. Bed linen hire on rq: 12€/bed

The Brittany / Finistere region

The house is about 4k from the village of Gouesnach which has a localshop. Gouesnach has strong links with its twin town of Eyrecourt in the Republic of Ireland, and there is an annual festival – Fête Celto-Irlandais held in the village on the first weekend of August. The property is 8k from Quimper, a beautiful cultural town with half timbered buildings and flower-covered footbridges criss-crossing the river. There are excellent shops in Quimper, a wide choice of restaurants and the indoor market (Les Halles Saint François) is great for buying local produce and specialities.
It is about 12k to the chic resort of Bénodet with its white sandy beaches and interesting maritime heritage and about 12k from Fouesnant which has a large indoor water park, Les Balnéides, and a Friday morning market The area is reputed for its cider production, and is a good place to visit the cider orchards and try some samples. The house is about 20k from Concarneau famous for its ville close or walled city, and there are boat trips up the River Odet between Quimper and Bénodet. There are many activities available nearby including water sports, canoeing, diving, tennis, horse riding and golf. This is a good area for cycling and many of the roads have cycle lanes.

The Quimper area

Quimper is the obvious choice as the historic and economic capital of the part of Brittany known as Cornouaille. It lies at the confluence of the rivers Steir and Odet, which run through the town that is the administrative capital of Finistere. It has a handsome cathedral and narrow lanes, with perfectly preserved half-timbered houses. But it is not merely a repository of history. It has many high-tech industries and an important food-processing industry, and is known for its local pottery, which continues to delight visitors.
