Home description

This traditional home which sleeps 5 is situated in the heart of Quillan, which sits aside the Aude River and is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The home has everything you require to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

From kitchen/ diner to cozy lounge, there are rooms available for whatever your mood and they have been decorated in a clean, modern but traditional style. A selection of DVDs are available for your quieter evenings, although the social life that quillan has to offer in peak summer months will probably cloud our DVD collection!

A great way to spend a lazy day could be a picnic by the river, just a minutes walk away or a short drive to Puivert, where the day can be lazed away relaxing, french style, beside a swimming lake, situated amongst the Pyrenees themselves. Beautiful surroundings, a traditional French cafe come restaurant, pedalos for the kids, safe beach play area and park, all make for fun for everyone.

Our local neighbourhood, has become informally named 'international square', as it now has properties owned by various nationalities and cultures and that brings with it, great charm and interest.

The area is panoramic and there is something to meet all tastes.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

Aude is Famous for its wine/wine tasting and many people visit this region of France year after year.

The area also has great Historic value being the region of the Cathar. The Walled City of Carcassonne is one of the most famous Cathar Castles, along with the Chateau de Peyrepertuse, Chateau de Queribus, Chateau de Lastours, Chateau de Puylaurens, Chateau de Puyvert, Chateau de Foix and Chateau de Montségur.

In Foix there is a beautiful market town of Mirepoix where there is a large central square which still has half-timbered houses supported on wood pillars. Also, the cathedral of St Maurice has a single nave some 48m long, 24m high, 22m wide; thought to be the largest unsupported nave in Europe.

Limoux is a market town (with an evening market during the summer months) and is only 15 miles away offering many interesting cathedrals and churches. It is most famous for the Limoux Fécos (Carnival) which takes place every weekend from mid January to mid March.

For the more adventurous there are many water sports on the river including; Canoeing, Rafting, Kayaking.
In season, this is an ideal stop for some Skiing in the Pyrénées, with a choice of many resorts, for all grades of skiers, including Puyvalador, Formiguéres, Les Angles, Font-Romeu, Pyrénées 2000, La Quillan and Ax Les Thermes, all within a 2 hour drive away.

On route to the Pyrénées there is a Regional Natural Park of Catalan Pyrénées, the Gorges of Galamus, the Yellow Train linking Villefranche-de-Conflent to Latour-de-Carol offering stunning views and a pre-historic Museum of one of the oldest remains ever to be found in Europe (some 450,000 years old) in an interesting Village of Tantavel (also famous for its wine!).
