Puivert Studio Apartment
Apartment | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 3
Green Horizons is a unique house set in six acres of beautiful park and woodland on the edge of Puivert village in the Languedoc, South of France.
Our self-contained studio apartment is bright and spacious, with its own private terrace and barbecue overlooking the garden and pool.
An ideal place for couples wanting a romantic break, or a family with a young child, the studio has a well-equipped kitchen area, double bed, cosy sofa corner, and table and chairs, as well as ample storage space. The bathroom has a rainforest shower, and is equipped with hairdryer, towels and toiletries. We can provide you with a travel cot and baby bath, or a futon for an older child. You will have your own private entrance with drive and parking space. The apartment has a range of DVDs and English television, books, board games and a stereo/CD player. Free wifi is available. Enjoy a meal or glass of wine on your own sunny terrace or under the pergola, explore the grounds, or swim in the large pool with its plentiful sun-loungers and cook in the pool-house summer kitchen.
A welcome pack for your arrival includes tea, coffee, sugar, milk, and bread and cereal for breakfast. The studio apartment is self-catering: stroll down to the boulangerie in the morning for freshly-baked bread and croissants; fetch milk from the nearby farm after milking in the evenings; fill a “cubi” with wine from the organic vineyard; and shop in local markets for seasonal vegetables. For a break from cooking, Puivert village also offers a range of restaurants, bars and cafés around the lake in season, or Chalabre (10 minutes' drive or 20 minutes by bike) has bars and restaurants all year round.
As well as sharing the grounds, swimming pool, picnic area and summer kitchen, you are welcome to borrow our two adult bicycles, or to store your own bicycles safely in our rainproof barn. Clothes washing and drying facilities are available on request.
Green Horizons offers you a welcoming and peaceful place to stay in a beautiful area. The Languedoc, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, is one of the sunniest regions of France, with over 200 days of sunshine a year. Popular with hikers, cyclists and watersports enthusiasts, it is close to the mountains for seasonal skiing and to the Mediterranean. With its organic vineyards, Cathar castles, and colourful local markets it offers something for everyone. There are bars and restaurants within walking distance in season, and a short cycle-ride or drive away all year round. Lac de Montbel, the largest watersports lake in the South of France, is 15 minutes' drive or 30 minutes by bike. The cinema is 20 minutes drive away, and Puivert village, swimming lake, castle and museum are in easy walking distance.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Puivert - which is 5 minutes' walk from the apartment - is on a wide plain above the upper Aude valley, where the Pyrenees really begin. It is 30 minutes' drive to the nearest ski stations of Camurac and Mijanès in one direction and 50 minutes to the Mediterranean near Perpignan in the other. Puivert has a Cathar castle which was one of the chain of fortresses defending the Cathars and later marking the border with Spain. It is now a lively tourist town in season, and also has a museum with exhibits on local folklore and musical history. There is a general store and boulangerie, and a swimming lake with a sandy beach area, which in summer has a lifeguard and café, lakeside dining and a shop. In summer there is a market on Wednesday evenings. In mid-July there is a sensational firework display across the lake - contact us for dates.
Puivert airfield is home to the local gliding club: they offer experience flights to visitors in French or English. And near Puivert is Lac de Montbel, the largest watersports area in southern France.
Quillan is 20 minutes drive from Puivert, and has a wide range of restaurants and local shops, 2 supermarkets, and a twice weekly market.
There is a swimming pool which is open over the summer, a gym, theatre, cinema and an active cultural life particularly during the summer - a highlight is the Folklore Festival, a week long celebration of music from around the world.
Quillan has a railway station on the route to Carcassonne - trains are about 4 times a day. There are buses to Perpignan 3 times a day. Train and bus fares are currently 1€ each way! The city of Carcassonne is a world heritage site, and other places worth visiting locally include Limoux (where local sparkling Blanquette wine is made), Rennes-le-chateau, the Cathar castle of Montségur, and Collioure on the coast near Spain. There is good walking and cycling - and over 200 days of sunshine a year - if you want to explore this beautiful region of France.

"Wonderful relaxing break in idyllic surroundings"
I have just returned from a lovely stay with my two daughters (11 & 13) in Green Horizons studio apartment in Puivert.. Such a great property complete with swimming pool, beautiful extensive gardens, cats, chickens and guinnea pigs to play with, plus a pretty village just 5 minutes walk away with a castle, lake, pizzeria and a well stocked shop. Ruth and Peter made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble including helping us plan a couple of days out and providing maps! We also appreciated the 'welcome pack' that included breakfast needs plus a bottle of wine. Such a lovely part of France with so much to visit, we are already planning our next visit...
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We really enjoyed having you and your daughters to stay here in Puivert, and we're very pleased that you enjoyed your holiday. The cats and guinea-pigs definitely missed the girls after you left! You would be most welcome to return any time.

"A fabulous spot to get away and have family time"
This is a fabulous studio apartment a short walk to a lake and village and a short drive to other wonders of the region including walking trails, lakes to swim in and resturants. We could not have had a better welcome from Ruth and Peter, who did not interrupt our precious family time but always close by to offer advice on where to go.
the grounds of the main house are great, and the swimming pool was most welcomed by our small daughter.
