The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Languedoc-Roussillon was formerly part the province of Languedoc: the departments of Hérault, Gard, Aude, the extreme south and extreme east of Lozère, and the extreme north of Pyrénées-Orientales. The former province of Languedoc also extends over the Midi-Pyrénées region, including the old capital of Languedoc Toulouse. This region resembles no other. The natural areas of Languedoc-Roussillon, South of France, offer thrilling, majestic spectacles. The further inland you stray from the coastline, the deeper you enter a natural wonderland!

Languedoc-Roussillon, South of France, is honeycombed with caves and caverns, forming one of the richest areas of subterranean landscape in France. About 15 of them are open to the public. The high mountains of Haut Languedoc, between Hérault and Aude, are a country of wild natural beauty. Languedoc Roussillon outdoors offers every imaginable sport and leisure activities. The region is also famous for its wines and gastronomy.

Among the many architectural and landscape features of Languedoc Roussillon, some sites have been marked out as treasures of cultural heritage : Pont du Gard, the Canal du Midi, the fortified City of Carcassonne, the pilgrim routes to Saint Jacques de Compostelle, the Vauban fortresses. These symbols of the ingenuity of past civilisations, listed by Unesco as World Heritage Sites, are an invitation to take a pilgrimage - whether inspired by culture, religion or tourism.

Quillan

Rich in history, Quillan is a popular town lying at the foothills of the Pyrenees, between Carcassonne and Perpignan, and is an excellent base for exploring Cathar territory. Wonderful scenery, and forested mountain tracks make walking and sightseeing a joy. You can go horse riding, cycling, mountaineering, or have a go at the water sports too, or simply relax into café life in one of our local squares and perhaps eavesdrop on the chitchat of the many artists and artisans to whom Quillan is home.

Quillan markets are twice a week and there are many music and sporting events, including the traditional Quillan Folklore Festival, and the Tour de France cycle race that passes through the town or close by.

Within the area are thermal spas where you can enjoy the natural hot spring water, and if you are interested in wines Quillan is close to the Corbières, Fitou and the Blanquette de Limoux vineyard districts.

There is much to enjoy winter and summer here and if you wish to ski Quillan is only 45 minutes from the nearest Pyrenees resorts, while the Mediterranean is only 45 minutes drive through breathtaking settings.

"Terrific place to stay"

This was truly a beautiful place to stay the accommodation was absolutely superb, the rooms were stunning but with a real sense of being at home. I have stayed in Quillan
many times but would certainly recommend here to stay...there is so much to soak in on those lazy days in the sun and yet with both the train station and bus station only a
short walk away it is so easy to catch a bus to Perpignan at the reasonable rate of 1 euro.

Thank you for your review. I am so pleased that you found our accommodation superb. Your feedback is much appreciated.
