The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Quillan is a 45 minutes South of the medieval town of Carcassonne, a Unesco World Heritage Site. With its quaint narrow cobbled streets, open air market and magnificent walled citadel, Carcassone makes a superb day trip. The graceful Canal du Midi, another Unesco World Heritage Site also flows through Carcassone.
While driving East from Quillan en route to Perpignan and the coast, enjoy the drive through the magnificent ravines and dramatic gorges of the Gorges de l'Aude, followed by lush vineyard valleys on The Route de Vins with sweeping vineyard panoramas. Following this route will take you to some of the Languedoc's most beautiful Mediterranean sand beaches with their crystal blue waters and stunning Pyrenees backdrops.
The Region is full of wonderful hikes from easy to strenuous. The Bureau de Tourism in Quillan is a fantastic resource to plan your outings. Try Kayaking or White Water Rafting. Children from young to old love the local ropes courses- some even traverse the rivers. Take a dip in a mountain lake or stream. Relax in one of the many local thermal pools or spas. Lovers of architecture will lose them selves in the many castle ruins found in breathtaking settings Like Puilaurens, Rennes le Chateau which are very close by. And food...glorious food and wine. There is plenty of that to discover in the many charming restaurants and local vignerons offering tastings of their products.
Quillan is a lively and picturesque French Market Town set in the heart of Cathar Castle Country at the foothills of the Pyrenees. Set in the dramatic Aude Valley landscape, Quillan is a designated French Village Fleurie ( Flowering Village of France). The region is a destination for those seeking non-stop activities while enjoying the ambience of a welcoming and well-appointed village home. Quillan's variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and services combine to make this picturesque spot comfortable and convenient.

"Great stay in a beautifully renovated house right on the river"
We really enjoyed our stay at La Maison Cerisier in July this year. The house itself has a lovely feel to it and I enjoyed the bright spacious kitchen that was really well equipped. This led straight out to a big deck that was perched just above the river where we enjoyed spending a lot of time just relaxing, listening and watching the river. The owners of the house thoughtfully provided a welcome book with a lot of great suggestions on what to do in and around the area. We were also greeted with a welcome basket of goodies which was much appreciated.
We drove to Carcassonne for the day which was well worth the visit. My tip is to go early in the morning to beat the crowds. We did some tasting of the local sparkling wine as well which was very nice!
I definitely would recommend a stay at this beautiful house in Quillan and hope to be back another time!

"A really brilliant holiday in a fab house in a beautiful town"
We stayed in La Maison Cerisier for 2 wonderful weeks in July and the house, location and atmosphere in Quillan was really fabulous. From Nicole, the house manager, to the welcome basket . . we couldn't have asked for more. The view of the river from the back garden was wonderful and being so close to the best cafe/restaurant/bar in the form of Cafe Le Fleuve is unbeatable. We will be back at the earliest opportunity.

"Authentic charm in the heart of Quillan!"
We stayed as a family of five in this lovely home right on the river in Quillan. We were met upon arrival by the property manager and shown everything that we needed. The back deck overlooks the strong river, providing a nice background of water "music". The cherry tree was in full bloom, which was a nice treat! Everything was clean and fresh, in an authentically-renovated atmosphere. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything you would need to cook and eat in. The welcome book contained so many excellent suggestions, from restaurants to outdoor activities - every one of them was a "thumbs up". We especially enjoyed the convenient location in the heart of Quillan for walking to restaurants at night or the boulangerie in the mornings. Lots of attention to detail...we would definitely stay again!
