The South Vietnam region
In Tuy Hua:
If you go to Tuy Hua which is a relatively large city there are a bit more to look at.
The view from the rooftop bar at Cen deluxe covers the entire city; it's also a good place to visit if you're hungry for some good food (even Western).
Tuy Hua also has a really nice Cham tower called Nui Bao Thap (Precious Tower) visible on the mountain that is very nice at night when it is lit up in the dark.
Even from a distance Da Bia Mountain (Gravestone Mountain) appear very clearly, getting here can be a exciting journey in itself, but it is definitely worth it in the end as it has a very relaxed atmosphere if not the tourist buses are in place. Remember that it can be very hot and windless by day!
Chop Chai Mountain is undoubtedly viewpoint No 1 where you get an incredible view of the entire Tuy Hoa city, the beaches, the rivers, rice fields that forms a puzzle, and the incredibly beautiful landscape you will witness ..
Top of the hill you will see a giant radio antenna which is also the only reason that there is a path up the mountain. This is not a known tourist attraction but as soon as you reach the top, then an incredible feeling overwhelm you to see views like this you will require a helicopter or similar.
In Quy Nhon
This is a relatively large coastal town with nice beaches and excellent seafood that is becoming more and more tourist adapted.
Historically, the city is a key point during the Vietnam War when the port was important for the American troops. A memory from that time is the armored tank that got stuck on the beach in front of Lan Ahn hotel. As the carriage slowly sinks in the sand, you still can see the top and the cannon which is a great kodak moment.
The town center has recently flourished and a larger indoor market with everything from fabrics for dresses and well-made "copies" have been opened in connection with the city Co.op Mart where also known chains like KFC and other facilities with Western influences have established themselves.
The city also has two Cham towers worth visiting. Thap Banh It and Thap Doi.
Take the opportunity to visit the An Duong Vuong Street the lively promenade with nice cafes and restaurants.
Larger buys of food and alcohol can be made at the Metro or Co.op mart supermarket.
On the way to Quy Nhon there are several resorts where you can enjoy both massage and a good dinner.
Other city worth visit closeby,
Nha Trang -Famous charter tourism city with popular hotel brands and western restaurants, shoppingmalls and discos. Great for younger, families, couples.
Take a time to visit "Vin Pearl" resort on a nearby island.
3,5 hour car ride or train.
Gahn Do is a small village in Phu Yen Province with panoramic views of the South China Sea.
There are two major cities nearby, Tuy Hoa (40 km south) and Quy Nhon (60 km north). Both cities have airports and there are regular flights to there from both Hanoi and Saigon.
The village has some quaint small cafes and some simple restaurants are nearby.
Residents are about 1000's and the majority have fishing as their main occupation.
When you look out over the sea in evening and at night you can see a long string of lights which are fishermen when they are working.
In the village you will experience guaranteed genuine and yet very simple Vietnam where you buy today's goods on the market in the morning, to visiting very simple but very tasty restaurants as well as you will be a part of the village's incredible kindness.
The level of English is very low, but use of bodylanguage and a bit of patience and understanding will get you very far. There is much to see and experience on your own in the village. You will get very close to the locals and their way of life.
One must remember that Vietnam is still a developing country where tourism can be quite awkward and not very usual for some.
Therefore, respect for fellow human beings, and understanding that not many speak English though they would really like to and try very hard to do it.
Every morning between 6:00 to 8:00, the village market, where one can find almost anything. We recommend buying fruits, vegetables, breads and even meat in there! In Tuy Hoa and Quy Nhon's major supermarkets – Co.op Mart, Metro - where there are more western style food to choose from.
Gahn Do, has a great climate year round because of its part in Phu Yen Province. The weather is changing and coastal breezes is nice. The humidity is not very high, and the average temperature is between 24-35 degrees.
From October to December is the rainy season. But it is no problem to be there, The rain lasts for one to a few hours.
The water is warm, clean and clear.
The beach is shallow, but it varies greatly between high and low tide. Just be aware that the waves and undercurrents can occur and you need to use common sense.
- We are guests in Viet Nam - Respect and accept your new to be friends.
If tired of the panoramic views from the house you could and should take a walk up to the village pagoda which is a Buddhist temple with a beautiful garden where they grow much of their food as they are vegans. Remember to dress appropriate.
Nearby the village is also a natural unexplained phenomenon called Ganh Da Dia that is octagonal rocks that rise from the sea. The stones are probably the village's most famous attraction beside for its fish sauce.
Also the market in the morning is an attraction in itself, where the people haggle about today's findings. The English-speaking in this market is virtually nonexistent but pointing works great and payment are normally works that the vendor shows a similar bill that you shall pay for your goods. Remember that the market is most busy and interesting from 06:00 to 08:00
Otherwise, it is up to you yourself to put the limit what you want to do, a motorbike ride along the coast to find for the ultimate paradise beach attracts some while others are just happy and relaxed with an ice coffee in the sun at internet cafe just up the road (20 meters from Than Tan sign above the house).
