About this location
The Brittany region
Brittany has a wealth of historical and megalithic sites, an amazing coast line, beautiful rolling green countryside, there are small working fishing ports where you can see the fisherman arrive and depart and numerous islands waiting to be visited. Every town has a market day - Auray is particularly good.
Places to visit are too numerous to list - here are just a few;
* The historic town of Quimper, the capital of Finistère, with its Gothic cathedral, ramparts, museums and old busy quarters, shops and markets offers many festivals all year round.
* The Gulf of Morbihan - a bird spotters dream
* Pont Aven is a must see with its links to the Impressionists and biscuiteries
* Concarnou - the ancient walled town - what a surprise!
* Carnac - a world renowned Megalithic site
A Gateway to Cornouaille and Finistère and only a stone’s throw from the sea with its sandy beaches, Quimperlé is packed with appeal and will seduce you all year round with its many activities and events. Uniting the seaside with the countryside, this charming town combines an important heritage with a relaxed pace of life. From the upper town to the historic quarter, along picturesque alleyways and down cobbled steps, across pretty bridges, the town is just waiting to be discovered.
Querrien has a general store, boulangeries, butchers, tabac, bars, creperie - all you need. There are walks and 18th century bread ovens to discover amongst other things.

this was really a terrible place. Next to the house lives a gipsy like family.cats everywhereold beds, no privacy on the terrace, bikes provided are rusty old non functioning bikes, no view, no intern… More
I don't think my wonderful French neighbours, who helped my guests out when my internet had been taken out after a thunder storm, would be very pleased at being called gypsy like. The internet was working within a couple of hours and all my other guests have been using it in the living area of the cottage.
There is only 1 cat, who craves attention, when I'm not around!
All the bikes worked and they are FREE.
This family complained about everything, i.e. lack of cutlery, they had to keep washing up, there are 12 sets of cutlery and only 5 of them!
I don't advertise a dryer.
As for smelly toilets, I am speechless.

"Relaxing, French and perfect location"

What an absolutely splendid holiday! A beautiful gite set in glorious grounds and lovingly cared for by the owner Julie, having been established by her & her late husband. A testament to their hard work. Julie is a most hospitable host and excellent chef - we partook of her culinary skills on the last evening, providing a delicious meal together with a separate dish for our vegetarian daughter.
The location is superb, particularly for us as this is our favourite part of Brittany, with Quimperle, Pont Aven, Concarneau, Quimper & Lorient all in close proximity, together with many superb beaches, including our favourite at Port Manec'h.
The gite has every facility needed for a more than comfortable holiday and the six of us were accommodated superbly in a cottage which can actually sleep 10 people. Plenty of grocery shopping available close by, including local shops in the village and a very large E Leclerc on the edge of Quimperle, where there is also an Intermache and a Carrefour Market.
Highly recommended - we would love to return. :-)
Thanks for a great review and for leaving the cottage so clean. I would love to see you here next year.

"The Wow Factor"
Walnut Cottage has been finished to an excellent standard. We were greeted by the owners, Julie and Alan, and instantly felt we had made a great choice. The welcome hamper was indeed very welcome (bread, cheese, milk, wine etc). The cottage is extremely well equipped, all the kitchen utensils etc you would ever need. We were able to use the wifi in the open plan living area, and the satelite TV ensured we could catch up with the Olympics. Alan and Julie are natural hosts and able to provide information for days out etc. The cottage has 4 bedrooms and a family bathroom. One of the bedrooms is downstairs with an ensuite, ideal for people who struggle with stairs. We thought the cottage was ideally located for day trips to Quimper, Quimpere, Port Aven and so much more. Plenty of safe, family friendly beaches. The local boulangerie was great for daily bread/croissants. Lots to see and do near to Walnut Cottage.
The love and care Julie and Alan have bestowed on Walnut Cottage is evident and we would love to return. I wanted to visit Brittany on our classic motorcyle and staying at Walnut Cottage was the icing on the cake.
