The Quebec Province region
Montréal, with a population of more than 3 million, is both the second-largest city in Canada (after Toronto) and the second-largest Francophone city in the world (after Paris). It is a cosmopolitan cultural and commercial hub that offers beautiful scenery, outstanding museums and cultural events and famous summer festivals, such as The Montréal Jazz Festival, the Montréal 'Just for Laughs' Comedy Festival and the Montréal Film Festival. Montréal is also renowned for its outstanding cuisine and French and international restaurants.
Old Montréal was destined to prosper from the time of its founding by a small group of French settlers in 1642, when its name was Ville-Marie. Because of its strategic location on an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, Montréal developed into one of the most bilingual and cosmopolitan metropolises in North America.
Montréal is also internationally renowned for its dynamism and cultural leadership. As you discover the modern city, you can also step back in time and learn about the events and people who left their mark on the streets and squares in this very special part of the city. Montréal is a harmony of old European cities and North American efficiency.
Quebec / Old Montreal area
Montreal is a phenomenal tourist destination, a city that stands alone in North America in so many respects. With the intriguing mix of two cultures and languages, the city's long history, its propensity for the arts, its endless festivals and celebrations, the fine dining and night life and of course the beautiful woman; there's not much to be missed. You'll also find professional football and soccer here, along with one of hockey's legends, the Montreal Canadians.
With the reclamation of the waterfront, the opening of the Lachine Canal to kayakers, the 300 kilometers of bike paths, along with the nature parks' initiative, Montreal is adding yet another dimension to its already broad appeal and of course another reason to visit. "
Montréal is truly an amazing experience a heady mixture of old world charm, French joie de vivre and a modern style all its own. Let yourself be immersed into the very heart of the Montréal experience!
Sunny weather and a huge network of bike paths will bring out the fitness fanatic in the most unlikely people. For those who prefer a gentle stroll or more speedy power walkers, cyclists and like many places now you can join the inline skaters,
A fine place to start is Old Montréal. Solo or with a group, head west along the Lachine Canal, cross the bridge to parc Jean-Drapeau for a few laps around the F1 circuit, or head north for a hike up Mount Royal and then enjoy a smooth ride down through the Plateau, into the many outdoor patios, ice cream stands and enjoy some well earned people-watching!
Its worthwhile checking out the many trips and places of interest on the internet before you visit, there is so much to do you will have to plan to fit it all in!.
