The Larnaca District

The town of Larnaca, the third largest on Cyprus, is often referred to as 'the gateway to the island'. Most travellers first see Cyprus at Larnaca, which is the second port and the site of an international airport. No welcome could be sunnier: at Larnaca, deep blue seas meet bright sandy beaches under incomparably brilliant skies.

Here yachts and sailing vessels from around the globe gather, and along the harbour perimeter is a palm-lined promenade. Inviting cafés offer shady resting spots and sweeping ocean views. The promenade winds its way to the Larnaka Medieval Museum, housed in a 17th-century fort.

Make your way north from the fort, toward the centre of the city, and you will come to one of Larnaca’s (and the island’s) most cherished sites — the church of St. Lazarus. After his resurrection from the dead by Jesus, Lazarus elected to live out his “second” life as Bishop of Cyprus. He is reputedly buried in a crypt under the main altar.

Originally called Kition in the days of the Old Testament, Larnaca reached a heyday as a commercial centre in the 1700’s, when the consulates were established here

One of the oldest, continually-inhabited cities in the world, Larnaca abounds with sights.

Pyla area

Whether you are looking for peace and relaxation, leisure activities, shopping, sightseeing or beautiful beaches Pyla gives you the perfect base as all of these are within easy reach.

You will be within minutes of:-
Famagusta - once the island's most popular tourist destinations
Waterworld - a great outdoor water park
The Great Salt Lakes in Larnaca
Scuba-diving in the Mediterranean - a magnificent underwater world
Troodos Mountains - only a 45 minute drive with breathtaking views in the summer and skiing in the winter

Beaches:-
Larnaca offers large stretches of safe sandy beaches that go on for miles. The two main beaches in Larnaca are the Mckenzie beach and Dhekelia beach which stretches for miles

Dhekelia Beach
Offers water sports and a variety of other activities. There are beach restaurants and sun loungers. A perfect spot for sun worshipers.

McKenzie Beach
Mckenzie Beach is well known for its beautiful white sandy beach and refreshing waters. Here you can enjoy the water sports facilities, which include scuba diving. Less than a five minute drive from Larnaca airport, Mackenzie Beach offers a great choice of restaurants famous for their Cyprus cuisine and fresh fish

Eating out:-
Either in Pyla or Larnaca you will find many local restaurants where you can sample the local Mediterranean cuisine. The local cuisine closely resembles that of the Greeks and fresh food is prepared daily at the local restaurants by chefs who are looking to show off the regions bountiful foods. One of the specialties is fresh fish as it is located right on the coast.

Pyla village is truly unspoilt and has traditional restaurants and bars and friendly local people. It is far removed from the hustle and bustle found in many holiday destinations.
