The Larnaca District

Mother Nature has been particularly kind to Southern Cyprus and the region has some of the best beaches in the entire Mediterranean. It’s geographic location means an almost perfect climate and the intriguing culture is a blend of centuries of tradition.

Today, Southern Cyprus attracts millions of visitors every year and historic ties with the UK, and an all year round climate, with 340 days of sunshine a year, make it a firm favourite with British holidaymakers and an all year holiday hotspot.

Temperatures rarely fall below 62ºF, with the exception of the Troodos Mountains, where snow falls. Summers are long, hot and dry everywhere except the Troodos; despite sea breezes, the island can get extremely hot - 100ºF in-land and 90ºF on the coast. The Capital of Nicosia, based inland, is the driest and hottest part of the island. Spring and Autumn are the most pleasant seasons, when it’s warm and sunny – but comfortable. The light rainy season is from December to February; the sea tends to be warm for most of the year.

Cyprus Tops EU report for cleanest beaches
28 Jun, 2007

An EU report released on the 31st May revealed that Cyprus has the cleanest bathing areas in the European Union.

EU states are obliged to report on the quality of coastal and fresh water bathing areas every year. A total of 21,094 beaches in EU member states were monitored between 15 May - 31October 2006 and it was Cyprus which topped the polls in Hygiene standards.

Litsa Chrysostomou, Marketing Manager at BuySell Real Estate said, “The cleanliness and quality of a beach is very much a key consideration when choosing the location of a holiday or second home. The fact that Cyprus claims excellence in this area is just another reason to purchase property here".

Litsa continued, “Cyprus enjoys 340 days of sunshine a year, a very low crime rate and a low cost of living. The island has excellent international air links with increasingly easy access to the UK “.

Pyla area

Cyprus is an Island of unlimited treasures, built near to the seaside Larnaca is enriched by beautiful beaches, people may think that Larnaca is only a summer resort but it is not just that. Larnaca is a town with many archaeological sites, it has six museums within walking distance from its centre and its art galleries and workshops are mere sources of inspiration. The cultural life in Larnaca offers a fantastic experience.

The complex is situated behind an electric gated entrance, housing communal gardens, swimming pool and tennis courts, and is on the outskirts of Pyla village, which has all amenities such as a supermarket, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. This is an uncrowded resort and is an ideal retreat for those who enjoy peace and tranquility away from the crowds. It is also close enough for those who wish to venture into the busier resort of Larnaca, which is approx 15 minutes by car, and slightly further afield Agia Napa which can be reached by car in approx 30 minutes. Although a car is not essential, it is advisable if you want to see the many beautiful sites that Cyprus has to offer. The Dhekelia Road is close by (Approx 2km), and has a vast range of restaurants and bars to suit every taste.

Diving In Cyprus
The amount of diving in Cyprus often surprises many that try it here. Cyprus is typically Mediterranean in climate terms. Its summers are hot and dry and its winters are mild, sometimes wet, but not often. During the summer months, water temperature averages at 25C, whilst declining to 15C in the winter.

The most outstanding site has to be the wreck of the massive roll-on roll-off ferry the Zenobia. She lies near Larnaka and can even be seen from the air as you land here. Basically, she is massive and offers divers plenty of exploration possibilities. But the Zenobia isn’t the only wreck around in Cypriot waters and most are not too far from shore. In fact all the dive sites are within easy reach.

About The Zenobia
The ferry " Zenobia " sank on it's maiden voyage in 1980 off the coast of Larnaca. It now lies 18 to 42 meters down, on it's port side. The Zenobia weighs 10,000 tons, is 172 meters long, and 28 meters wide. On board there are more than 100 lorries and cars, many of these can be found outside of the ship.

Skiing In Cyprus
Cyprus is a wonderful island of contrasts. Where else could you ski in the morning and then be sunning yourself by the pool or on the beach in the afternoon? The snows on Mount Olympus are a fabulous way of spending a winter morning in the Ski Cyprus arena.

There are more than 200 kilometres of well-marked hiking trails on the island, including a number of popular hiking routes such as those in Troodos area, the Akamas Peninsula, the Aphrodite Trail, the Adonis Trail branch and the Avakas Gorge..

Skiing in Cyprus is a wonderful experience: not because of the large variety of lifts and runs but because of the serene beauty of the surroundings. Experience skiing amongst centuries old pine trees and cedars and enjoy stunning views of the the coast line (Limassol), the plain (Nicosia) and on clear days you may even see the snowy mountains in Turkey!

At the end of March you can also ski in the morning and relax on the beach (and swim if you want). Skiing in Cyprus is an experience out of the ordinary!

Golf in Cyprus
The beautiful island of Cyprus has always been a popular year round holiday destination, thanks to its 340 days of sunshine, history and culture, beautiful scenery, great beaches and the wonderful hospitality of its people. Visitors from Britain feel at home here, as most of the population speak English and driving is on the left hand side of the road.

Cyprus offers a wealth of attractions to the visitor, such as the wonderful scenery, ancient sites, water sports, mouth watering cuisine and of course, great golf. We have our third development Majestic Gardens located in Tersefanou Village, with spectacular views of the sea and the mountains and home to the new up and coming championship golf resort.

Shopping In Larnaca
If shopping is a hobby for you, then you are lucky to be on an Island where fashion is a must. Apart from the souvenirs you plan to take back home, Larnaca is the place to shop.

The two main streets are Ermou Street and Zenonos Kitieos that meet at a point at one end forming an open triangle, linked at places by smaller side streets and tree-shaded courtyards where you can sit and have a coffee break at a cosy cafeteria. The variety of shops can easily compare with many European Cities. Whether you wish to buy jewellery, clothes, leather, watches, antiques or visit the optician, Larnaca is a town, which combines the modern and traditional, high street names, with old family run businesses such as watchmakers, tailors and even traditional shoemakers.

Guestbook for Pyla Penthouse

Testimonial

It was my first trip to Cyprus, and I certainly intend on returning again. I enjoyed the history, climate, people and of course the food that the country offers.

The apartment was fantastic and surrounded by excellent facilities – including a lovely pool area.

Thanks again,

Jon Bell
