The Larnaca region
Larnaca is a modern city with a beautiful palm-lined promenade, a cluster of ruins and long beaches. The seafront is bustling with bars and restaurants and and many tempting craft shops and markets.
You can visit St Lazarus Church - Áyios Lázaros and the Salt Lake, home to nearly 80 species of migratory birds like flamingos. About 10,000 flamingos visit the lake every year around Jan-Feb.
There are all manner of watersports, and lots of tempting beach bars, on the Castella, Mckenzie and Phinikoudes beaches.
Larnaca is ideally situated to explore the island and the sea. There is diving, deep-sea fishing, and windsurfing along the shoreline. In town, you can book a Jeep safari into the Troodos Mountains.
Pyla is a charming village which has a small selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and bars. It has a population of approximately 1500 people, two thirds of which are Greek Cypriots and one third Turkish Cypriots. Pyla is the only village in Cyprus where both Greek and Turkish Nationals reside together.
There is a medieval tower in the centre of the village and an ancient Royal tomb. It also has two churches and one mosque.
