The Costa de Almeria region
Almería is the driest region in Europe as well as one of the warmest with an average annual temperature of 19C and has some 330 days of sun per year on average. Due to its arid landscape, numerous spaghetti westerns were filmed in Almería close to the town of Tabernas which is also home to one of Spain's finest Olive Oils "Castillo de Tabernas".
When visiting the coast do not miss the Cabo de Gata Natural Park which runs through the municipal areas of Níjar, Almería and Carboneras. Its villages, previously dedicated to fishing, have become tourism spots for those interested in nature. One of the greatest draws of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park is its beaches.
During the winter the weather is comfortable and fairly dry and daily temperatures are usually between 15-20°C. During the summer it rarely drops below 30°C. Temperatures during the heat of the day can exceed 35°C.
Purchena / Urracal area
The village of Urracal is some 750 metres above sea level which provides a very comfortable year round climate. In summer warm summer days are contrasted with comfortable evenings when the temperature drops. This is one of the reasons that the neighbouring village of Lucar produces the award winning Este wines.
Urracal is a white moorish village of some 300 people. The main source of income is from agriculture and in particular Olive and Almond trees abound. Further up the valley towards Baza is the town of Seron, famous for its Serano hams.
Baza is only a 40 minute drive over the boarder into Granada where you can swim in the beautiful Lake Negratin or why not continue and spend a day in the beautiful city of Granada and visit the Alambra.
If you like to party Spanish style visit Urracal between 7th and 9th August 09 for the Fiesta of San Blas.
Beat the Credit Crunch! Restaurant & Bar prices are a fraction of those on the Costas and the quality is fantastic!

Guestbook for Casa Grande
"We spent a wonderful fortnight at Urracal. It is a lovely villa, very comfortable and well-equipped with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. It was great relaxing by the pool and enjoying the peace and quiet. A very enjoyable holiday!" Sarah C, Derry Hill, Wiltshire
"A superb villa nestled on the hillside above the village of Urracal. Beautiful views from the terrace and bedrooms, very well equipped with washing machine, dish washer, and kitchen equipment including a bottle opener for the welcome bottle of wine. We lazed on the terrace and swam in the pool and in the evening watched the sun go down while we cooked our BBQ. A complete relaxing holiday!" Pat & Michael H, Taunton, Somerset
