House | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 14
This is a lovely, very secluded, ocean-front house with a private swimming pool, 24hr on-site staff, and beautiful grounds. Beautiful big verandah. Three of the bedrooms have multiple bunks, so you can pack in a lot of people. The staff will do laundry, and cook if requested, though there is a fully equipped kitchen. Cabana by the beach with hammock. Boat available for trips to town or other excursions. Wifi and broadband internet included. There are enough fridges, chairs, cutlery, etc, for twenty people.
Livingstone is a fascinating town with Hispanic, Maya, and Garifuna cultures mingling. Because it's not very touristy you can still see the local cultures.
There is no direct access by road. This is a good thing if all you want to hear is the waves, the wind in the palm trees, and the occasional cockerel. You get there by boat, or it's a five minute walk along the beach to a road. from there it's a ten minute walk into town, or a three minute taxi ride. you can walk into town along the beach too.

The Eastern Guatemala/Caribbean Coast region
Livingston is quite unique: On the mainland, but only accessible by boat, this small fishing village is home to three distinct yet intermingled cultures; Mayan or Queche, Garafuna (descendants of slaves escaped from Caribbean plantations), and Hispanic. Everyone is friendly and there is virtually no crime because it is such a tight community. You are at the mouth of the inspiring Rio Dulce on the Caribbean. It's only a 40 minute boat ride to Belize. There are some really nice beaches, interesting nightlife, quite a lot of gringos, but not too many, some small Mayan ruins and the Seis Altares falls and the spectacular Rio Dulce gorge to see; utterly unspoiled with locals fishing in dugout canoes, manatees, etc..
The main town nearby is Puerto Barrios. There are regular ferries there throughout the day, with the ferry taking about 20 mins. There are multiple clean fast buses from Puerto Barrios to Guatemala City.
