The Sardinia region
Sardinia has long been Italians favourite holiday destination.....now with many cheaper flights from UK, many British holidaymakers are discovering why the Italians love it so much. Sardinia has the cleanest sea in the Mediterranean, with crystal water up to 40 meters deep in places. It's large size and the low number of coastal hotels and developments allows it to retain its local character. With miles of pristine silky sandy beaches and one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Mediterranean.....Sardinia....the Mediterranean as it once was.
The pretty town of Pula has a market every Tuesday and concerts most evening through the summer from Jazz to Pop and the odd string quartet or piano recital plus some local dancers. On the outskirts of the town is the extensive Roman city of Nora situated on the headland with a beach adjacent where you can swim over some of the parts of the city now underwater.
The villa is adjacent to Forte Village, the most exclusive resort on the south coast, and a few minutes from Chia, beloved by wind-surfers and voted Best Mediterranean Beach by Daily Telegraph readers. Blu Fan acquaparc is less than 10 minutes drive, Is Molas International Golf Course is about 6 minutes. Boat hire, yacht charter and scuba diving are all available locally.
Sardinia has a rich cultural heritage and there are many local festivals over the summer starting with St. Efisio in May and Ferragosta in August, where flower laden carts pulled by oxen arrive on Nora beach carrying an effigy of The Virgin Mary. There is a mass followed by a procession of decorated fishing boatsbeing blessed and a massive firework display. Museums and events displaying sardinian culture including music and dance are available throughout the summer.

"A peaceful, family beach holiday villa"
We had a wonderful family holiday on our first trip to Sardinia. The owner of the villa was friendly and helpful. He had prepared a pack of information detailing places to visit and restaurant recommendations. The villa was very well maintained and had been recently refurbished. It was well kitted out with everything we needed and we found it plenty spacious enough for the five of us.
We enjoyed some delicious food at some of the local restaurants (suckling pig is a definite must!) A car is a necessity for trips anywhere other than the local beach. We tried several different beaches but concluded that the private beach a short walk from the villa is the best. The sunbeds are the least expensive and it tends to be fairly quiet. All the beaches are clean and the water beautifully clear.
We had several fun trips out including a day at the waterpark which the kids thought was amazing. The major point to be aware of is that almost all of the main attractions open for the season on 1st July. Luckily, although we arrived in June the latter part of our holiday incorporated the beginning of July so we didn't miss out on anything.
Most evenings were spent in Pula in the town square where we had drinks after dinner at one of the many restaurants. An entertainer performed juggling and magic tricks in the square every evening which the children loved while we relaxed over cocktails.
We had a fabulous holiday and the villa is highly recommended.
